The focus is on Europeans because for recent centuries Europeans have maintained an empire that was built as a racist world. We have spent the last 2 centuries trying to destroy the elements of that empire within our own country. It is one of reasons that America is such an extraordinary country; its people have continually striven to perfect our union.
The concern about racism from a dominant social group is the ability of that group to act on their racist impulses. On the other hand, everyone is going to have to get over it as we blend into a common people. By then, racism among the previously oppressed will sound discordant to their values and senses. It is enough that we have largely put the issue aside with regard to Senator Obama; however, that is largely because Senator Obama is not a black but a biracial candidate, and that bodes well for the healing of old wounds.
