You are right about one thing in your article. I am amazed at how many Obama supporters don't know what public financing is and thought that he was doing a great thing by refusing to use it. They said they admired him for it because it meant he wouldn't get money from special interests and lobbyists, etc. They said he was using the "purest form of financing".

They just don't get it . It is a sad day for America when somebody can keep on lying and cheating and voters just don't get it!

You just don't get it. The 527s (which are special interests and lobbyists) "augment" the public funding by buying ads that support their favored candidates. The problem is that these 527s are outside candidate control -- and are known for being very deceptive in their advertising tactics.

The main Democrat 527 is the one associated with Move-On.org. However, Move-On has SUSPENDED its 527 BECAUSE Obama is not taking public financing. Move-On is willing to have people who would otherwise fund its efforts donate to Obama for his use in his campaign. This is a real improvement over past years. It means that Obama will be able to control the message associated with his candidacy; will be able to prevent unfair attacks against McCain; and will not be beholden to Move-On or any other 527 when he wins.

You are so right, Lubell. Some voters just don't get it.

They should have to take a test. Mothers have always said that the worst thing to come out of the 60s other than Rod McKuen poetry (damn hippies) is the fact that people don't have to take a test to vote anymore or pay a poll tax for that matter.

Also, they say that the best thing to come out of the 70s other than the Sonny & Cher show (good hippies) is public financing. How else could T. Boone Pickens been able to voice his true feelings if he had to do it through W's campaign.

Actually, I have thought the same on occasion...that voters should take a test first! However, what brought me to that conclusion was the large numbers of people who vote Republican, and against their own best interests! When people are so stupid to believe the old Republican chant of "lower taxes" means THEIR taxes, well then some education is needed.
