I agree that the pin is in very bad taste and that many buyers probably did take the racist interpretation of what it said to heart (TX is also the state where a Sikh store clerk was beaten to death for wearing a turban shortly after 9/11 by a bunch of rednecks who don't know the diffference and probably don't care to learn it).

It could also be interpreted to be a statement about the semantic hyper-sensitivity of the "PC" set, who are also not traditionally popular in GOP circles. I'd also venture a guess that most non-wingnut Dems are probably less than proud of sentiments expressed by some of the bumper stickers out there, at least one of which could probably have been found for sale at a state Dem convention in one of the blue states.

This is why so many hard core Republicans, especially in red states, voted for Obama, once their primary contest was over.

This is just one of many efforts they'll make to "energize" their core supporters, who were too apathetic to vote up to now.

Hey, I don't have any problem saying 'Right Wing Scum' especially here in CA now with the same-sex-marriage election coming up, but here is what I see in this SPECIFIC case.

Obama comments yesterday ('and did you know he is black')and about what THEY would do (use fear etc..) were too broad since he used the term THEY and it isn't clear who THEY are.

Obama should of just said FOX NEWS and then he would of been 100% correct.

I have seen a lot of process here and more liberal members of socieity like myself need to realize that (i.e. NOT paint every con with the same brush).

I would say 20 years or so ago Cons would of said 'that was wrong' in public but would be winking and saying behind closed door 'wasn't that great!'.

Now even behind close doors most would say 'no that is just flat out wrong and not something we wish to be associated with'.

Just to be clear, I do not think all Repubs. are right wing scum. Heck, I even have a few friends that are repubs. The "right wing scum" to which I refer are the ones who produce and sell racist and sexist trash (hint, these are the same people).

Just because the first amendment protects your right to sell something doesn't make it a moral choice to do so.

There are also racist and sexist libs. So why not say 'this scum' instead of using a term 'right wing' which to me implies a much larger targeted group.

Because that is who these folks are. These are not racist/sexist " ideologues," these are Rove or Rove wanna-be operatives who will slime any Dem candidate by exploiting any 'ism or perceived vulnerability. In reality, they are probably not so racist or sexist themselves, but are ready and willing to foster those dark impulses in others.
