Beer ads

Good column bro. One thing I think you missed when average guy like myself considers buying a 12er is the price. After a hard day in the cube, I occasionally will knock down three or four cold ones to wind down. Often taste along with brew origins dont necessarily matter so much as the desired affect, but is still something to consider. My formula: Get the best tasting beer for the best price. Im sure many would disagree but the Budweiser family of beers seems to have nailed this better than any other brewer I have seen. Thier beers are marginal by most worldy and U.S micro standards but do rather well by middle class America standards. I think this is largely because for Americans, drinking beer more times than not is not a cultural experience in and of itself, like the marketing execs would have you believe drinking a Corona, Heiney, or Amstel is as you have pointed out. We just want a cold beer that tastes better than Old E but not as pricey as the the aforementioned imports. By the way, this idea is probably a pretty good way to insure you reach as many demographics as possible in my opinion. Dont get me wrong , I love a Guiness, Bass, Heineken and the others when Im out, or while BBQing but most of the time its the Bud and Bud Light that makes the cut because its really not all that important anyways. I just want to get faded.

The problem is that they are sacrificing flavor for price. You say they want a cold beer that tastes better than Old E, but Budweiser (and it's direct competitors) doesn't taste like anything anyway. You might as well knock back a few bottle of Poland Spring or Aquafina.

Numbers dont lie my friend. Although Bud is down this year, they still control 50% of the domestic market. People like what they know and will take it for a reasonable price. Doesnt mean its good or bad but it appears they have the right combination of taste and price. Interesting note about Anheuser Busch. Half of all revenues are spent on marketing/advertizing. How do I know, I used to work for them. Goes to show, if they beat it into your head long and often enough many will come around......except me of course, refer back to my previous post. I hate all propaganda...er advertising.

I've never gotten a good buzz off of Budweiser or it's companions either.
