September 10th point of view?
by middleview

McCain says that Obama has a pre-911 attitude towards terrorism.

I'd like to know what McCain would have done differently in the days after the 1993 attack on the WTC. Who would he have declared war on?

Does McCain understand what went wrong because we didn't commit the forces needed to capture or kill Bin Laden? Would the attacks in Spain or England have happened if we'd kept him from getting to Pakistan?

McCain seems to come from the George W. Bush school of military tactics (which W put together during his many weekends in the Guard protecting Alabama from Georgia).

McCain Claims

McCain Claims that Obama has pre 9-11 mentality.

But John McCain proves OVER AND OVER that he has a pre 1911 mentality.

McCain is pointing out that

Obama is a gormless, clueless, newbie and he is pretty much talking to reasonable people; i.e., not to Obamacrats.

Obama wants to use pre-911 methods of fighting...

islamic terrorism. Does he not? Yes, he does. So, tell us, why should we expect him to do any better than America did before 9/11?
McCain wants to use Bush tactics
by middleview

So tell me why would should expect him to succeed?

We are attacked by terrorists who are harbored by the Taliban in Afghanistan.....Bush puts a few American troops on the ground but immediately begins planning 165,000 troops to invade Iraq....a country that wasn't involved.

The moral of the story is that if you want to attack Americans and kill thousands of us, just wait until the president is about to be distracted by some other unrelated enemy. That worked for the killers of 241 marines in Beirut....Ronald Reagan invaded Grenada, just to show the terrorists a lesson....eh?

I thought he was protecting Texas...

I thought he was protecting Texas from the Viet Cong. At least that's how McCain once described it.

Well he kicked the everliving shit out of Hillary now didn't he?

Remember that the VC never actually set foot in either place, so maybe we should give W credit.

Ahhh, so all of the voters who cast a vote for Obama are not reasonable people? I'm just glad you don't go in for silly exaggerations.

I'll keep you in mind as I hear the words "the president of the United States, Barak Obama", followed by the playing of Hail to the Chief.

gringo-911, I see that fear tactics still work on many. But there is just one little thing we are overlooking, and that is the Rule of Law. If you aren't familiar with it, look it up. When our nation ignores the Rule of Law, we become no better than those countries that do not follow it. It is what makes a nation civilized. Ignoring it, as Bush has done (and as McCain would do) is what has led to the decline in respect for the United States by other civilized nations.

If your only tool is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.

I keep asking, who should we have used the military on after the WTC attack in 1993? The mosques of northern New Jersey?

We used law enforcement because it was a handful of wackjobs and we caught them all.

We used the military (and not very well) when we identified a nation which was harboring the terrorists who attacked us. If we had done a better job in Afghanistan and cut off Bin Laden's escape route, Al Qaeda would be a memory now.

Bush was already working on the invasion of Iraq, as he said he'd do in 1999, and didn't finish the job in Afghanistan.

A recent evaluation of 65 Guantanamo detainees has shown that 40 of them had absolutely no ties to terrorism. What excuse do we have for having held these men for years before we find that they were no threat to us? If I was put in jail, unjustly, by the US....I'd be looking up my Al Qaeda recruiter once I was released......

Too many people like Gringo think that because they are prisoners in Cuba, they must be terrorists.....only proper hearings could figure that out.
