You mean you really like them...
by Mr_A

Saying that "because kids like them, adults don't need to" justifies putting out trash. Kids like candy, but parents should give them food that is healthy. These sequels (yes, I have seen a few, and I have been disgusted) typically remove any moral depth from the story. Yes, they may provide good practice for animators, and the animation may be as good as you say (although I respectfully disagree; measuring against Bambi is harder than measuring against Beauty and the Beast). However, the storytelling is a writers' sweatshop, where attention to quality is sacrificed to ... well, to the next quarterly earnings report, I suppose. I don't work there, I just have seen the product.

You like it, but I think your yardstick is short. I lose respect for anyone who says these works are a quality product, and I think you should evaluate them like any other movie. There are so many good movies out there, movies with messages, with maturity-inspiring themes, that the latest PC-stuffed DVD sequel really should be treated like junk food, not like real content. Dora the Explorer and Avatar come off better, heck even Blue's Clues has more meat than these things. Congratulations to those who care about making quality over a quick profit (at the expense of the brand name).

All this may be true, but kids like some fluff every now and then just like adults. Healthy food of course, but a cookie or popsicle here and there makes life a little sweeter. One of my favorite movies? Dumb and Dumber. no moral depth to that one for sure!

Dora and Blue's are not better than these movies! my kids watch them too and they are mind numbing, repetitive, and ugly. But hey - keeps the kids busy for 1/2 and hour and they might learn a little Spanish here and there... Oh well, to each his own!
