McCain family fiscally irresponsible.
by bitterpills
I'm not sure whether I think that their respective family budgets reflects how they will govern or not. The fact that McCain's economic adviser Douglas Holtz-Eakin has said "I would like the next president not to talk about deficit reduction" and the fact that McCain voted again and again to raise the debt ceiling for Bush's busted budgets are both much greater indications of McCain's tendency for borrow and waste. And the fact that at both the state and the federal level Obama has fought for pay-as-you-go budgeting and to make government spending more open and easier for citizens and journalists to track indicates that he is the kind of balance and invest Dem that we need.

However, if more evidence was needed it can be found in the McCain and Obama family budgets.

After becoming wealthy from Barack's book sales, the Obama's paid off all their debts and socked away over $100,000 for their two daughters' college fund. By contrast, in spite of having more money than any of us could dream of on account of ditching his crippled first wife for a younger and more attractive heiress, McCain can't seem to keep his house's finances in order. The McCain's have between $100,000 and $250,000 in credit card debt.

To be sure, given their extreme wealth the McCain's huge credit card bills from Cindy's extravagant spending do not put them at risk. Carrying hundreds of thousands in credit card debt is a luxury and privilege to which few of us can relate. I just wonder how the kinds of luxurious privileges that McCain enjoys effect his fiscal instincts. Maybe the whole "just put it on the card" attitude is the reason he's gone along with Bush's busted budgets.
Credit card debt does not make
