Can an 85lb woman get pregnant? Hell yeah!
by love_da_drool

I must be a freak of nature, because I did! Nineteen years ago, I got pregnant within a week after my husband and I decided to try for a baby. Healthy baby girl nine months later, although she was very skinny as a kid, and now is very tiny herself (4'11' 95 lbs) She had little stick legs, and people who didn't know me thought I wasn't feeding her!

I was 5'1, 80-85l bs (not anorexic, really skinny people are common in my family). I must have had a decent amount of body fat at the time, because I wore a C-cup bra back then (all t*** no a** , but now I have smaller boobs but a curvy rear to match!)

Depends on the person, and their particular genetics I would say.

Well, I managed to impregnate one tiny tart four times,

after a doctor told us we wouldn't have any children because she had too small a pelvis, or something stupid like that. I now have some tiny grandchildren built like her, and some big ones built like me, but the others are just normal sized kids.

I knew someone who was 5' 2" and 88 pounds (BMI of 16.1*) and it did not affect her fertility, either. She was thin, but she wasn't anorexic.

Discussions of weight in articles these days too often fail to take individual variations into account.

*Not that a BMI score on its own is a reliable measure of anything.

It is frustrating to continually read these articles. There's a lot of skinny-people hate, or dibelief that it is even possible to be thin, naturally, out there.

So apparently my BMI is/was around 17. I have had two babies without complications, the normal way that women traditionally have babies.

This article is written in a way that assumes "skinny women" are torturing or depriving themselves in order to be thin, therefore the liklihood of pregnancy, particularly a successful and uneventful one, is "slim."

Does anyone make the distinction between healthy and sickly women who are thin?

Absolutely. I weighed 87 lbs when I got pregnant with each of mine and they delivered full term and healthy (and big). Of course I gained a lot with each one.

This article was written with Nicole Ritchie in mind, who was not skinny until recently. You don't become "naturally skinny" in your 20s so she probably is depriving herself and 85 lbs is not healthy for her.
