the fulsome praise for Mr. Russert
by rlthorn
I won't argue with your editor at large. Opinions are just that and only that. What I would say to him from my perspective is that I have been involved in politics since Stevenson/Eisenhower and had Potomac fever for just as long. I've followed politics through the eyes of them all.Cronkite, Huntley, Brinkley, Rather, etc., etc. Russert was different. He was engaged and engaging. He illuminated and informed. He could nail a subject in a word or a phrase, Florida, this race is over.We out here in the hinterland came to look forward to his observations and commentary. It gave us perspective and insight. We were treated as adults. Talked to not down to. If your editor at large doesn't get this and clearly he doesn't, he is on the wrong train,on the wrong track, at the wrong station. I am reminded of something I was told on an aircraft carrier, "If you can keep your head while others about you are losing theirs, perhaps you just don't understand the situation." If Jack doesn't join the rest of America in mourning the passing of a unique individual or can't recognize the uniqueness of Mr. Russert, he just doesn't understand the situation. For that I am truly sorry for him. He missed it because he didn't get it.
