10 mavel superheroe i'd rather see in a movie than the hulk
by baltimore aureole

10 - "abominatrix" - this is an actual marvel heroine (or villain-ess?), as all of them are. i'm not sure what she does, but if i was doing the screen adaptation i'd mix in equal portions of D/S, blaxploitation, and computers trying to control mankind. ("No, Mr. Architect - I'm the Abominatrix - I answer to no one. Now get down on your knees and kiss my black ass")

9 - "agent cheesecake" - she's a killer fembot, and appeared in the "hulkbusters" comic series, whatever that is. evidently another villain. but she could be conflicted - aren't we all? she's at least as deserving of a film franchise as austin powers, imho. especially if she has amusing software malfunctions, eh?

8 - "Americop" - no i'm not making these up - these are actual copyrighted marvel characters. did you know captain america is dead? yep, and "americop" is sort of his successor. but before the captain was killed, he and americop had a falling out over the cop's brutal, vigilante ways. what is americacop's special target? "child exploitation rings". again, i'm not making this up. not much opportunity for comedic spins with this sort of plotline. ah, just forget it.

7 - "the anole" - the possibiliteis here are hilarious. an anole, of course, is a form of chameleon lizard. this character is one of the lesser x-men, and he's gay. can you imagine him duking it out with the geico gecko, who is also testosterone challenged?

6 - "baron strucker" - there a dozen marvel characters who are barons. i chose strucker because of the name's naughty corporal punishment frisson. how about this as an over the top plotline - baron strucker kidnaps california valley girls and takes them to his castle deep in the black forest, where they come to dread, fear, then finally love the lash? the anole is sent to rescue them, but is disinterested, and fails to follow through. actual mavel characters who could be in league with baron strucker might include "blacklash", "big bertha", "brutacus", and "bushwacker". i'll repeat my disclaimer - i am NOT making up these characters. link to marvel's wikipedia entry at the bottom

5 - doctor bong - can cheech and chong come back to fight this villain? if not, how about harold & kumar, if they're getting the stoner film franchise thing? this plot practically writes itself, i think.

4 - flambe - part of the evil organization "hells belles", i would recast her as a dessert chef by day, crime fighter by night.

3 - hazmat - this marvel character appeared only in videogames, never comics. he was invented when politicians thought we were going to die from toxic waste instead of global warming. can he be updated as the fighter of (or source of) carbon emissions? that would be topical, right?

2 - "maelstorm" - the offical backstory from marvel is too baroque to recap here, but suffice it to say it involves cloning crimes, an all female gang called "the deviants", and a vow to wipe out the entire human race. the characters name should get both regular moviegoer as well as the transgenedered though, eh?

1 - miss america - had a long run in marvel comics, from 1943 to 1958. no, she's not the beauty contest winner. with captain american legally dead (okay, literarily), shouldn't miss america be called upon to continue his work? less sexual role ambiguity than wonder woman, probably.

some marvel character also rans which i might consider casting in films: "iron maiden"; "kofi whitemane"; "left winger"; "mojo"; "motor mouth"; "omerta"; "peepers"; "pretty persuasions"; "scintilla"; "smart alex"; "speedball"; "titania"; "vavavoom"; "vibro"; "cassiopea"; "annalee"; "black bolt"; "blowhard"; "boobytrap"; "boom boy"; "bushmaster"; "demiurge"; "Electro Cute"; "Frigga";

a partial list of marvel characters who have already appeared in films, with or without royalty payments to marvel comics group: spiderman, the hulk, daredevil, demolition man, dr octopus, all the xmen, the fantastic four, iron man, ghost rider, the punisher; radioactive man;
