"RESPONSE TO SLATE'S DEAR PRUDENCE; DEAR HILLARY"
Dear Prudie,
HRC got over 18 million votes- TECHNICALLY- more votes then any other primary candidate in US History. Though the BO campaign argues as such, it is inarguable as fact, as well as unethical not to give HRC credit. Credit for the thousands and thousands of voters who pulled out of their driveways, took out their drivers licenses, walked into polling booths and voted. I sincerely believe (though a flawed election) she will ultimately get credit for those who voted for her in Michigan. Because BO was actually on the ballot, we know she gets full credit for her Florida votes; historically speaking she will get credit for both.
Barack Obama chose to pull his name off the ballot in MI. From those friends I have spoken too in MI, Barack would have had a tough time carrying this state. I believe his campaign undoubtedly new-knows this. Now that his campaign has made "their choices" regarding MI, good luck winning MI in the autumn. Have you seen the polls in Florida and Michigan lately? McCain should not even be close, let alone leading considering the incredible financial crisis and politics in these two battleground states.
Such arrogance, and you judge Hillary…
Barack Obama's camp thinks he can win MI and FL, even after the primary debacle. I hear FL and MI electorate are incensed, and since you do not care to be respectful of gender, then I will say that you and I both know how easy it will be to blame a half black man. Black persons can make wonderful scapegoats, just like women do.
LET THE GAMES BEGIN- ITS GENERAL ELECTION TIME!
Since you choose to be as ungracious as your perspective slyly accuses the Clintons of, since you are intent on burning the woman at the stake, then I will give you my advice from a MAN who knows WOMEN better then most MEN (it does help to see a woman truly, sincerely, and accurately when your not 100% intent on sleeping with her).
Prudie, I wonder if you lack the boldness if not brass a woman like Hillary has, despite that glint in your own eyes. Revenge is a dish best served cold, and you are cold where she is concerned. I hope for your sake the Clintons never get the opportunity to return the favor to your own steely perspective. However, I doubt that the Clintons will never get that chance. You know as well as I to never say never in politics- let alone life.
When ambitious women with the same arrogant glint in their eyes begin to support one another, then you will no longer have to play by rules that MEN not WOMEN make. Do you not get it yet? You're willingly peddling to patriarchal paradigms. Hey I am a man, I am onto your cute and smart angle Prudie.
Please have what your namesake suggests, some PRUDENCE! This is a painful and hopefully healing time for more then half those Democrats that did vote.
Clinton, for all your own judgment will be remembered as a trailblazer, a controversial one at that. However, such a reality brings to mind one of the most famous feminist quotes? Consider your own name once again, I hope I do not offend in sighting this telling quote.
"Well behaved women rarely make history."
I will support Barack, his canidiacy is too important of an opportunity to pass-up. How incredible and exciting it is to have a half African American as President. I did not vote for him, in fact, my vote was one of thousands that helped topple him in the Texas Primary. I did not vote for him, for I believe like Carter, he lacks the necessary experience to lead at this highly volatile time. However, he has proven himself more formidable then I could have imagined. He toppled the Clintons (no doubt with the support of the media- those like you)! His grass-roots fundraising will be a model copied for decades. I admire his grace and eloquence. He will likely get my vote on his sheer courage and fresh confidence.
I walk away hugely disappointed that Clinton lost, that women are still beneath men, no matter what color in many ways. I wonder how much you have considered that reality. I reflect on how long it will take women to stop running from their own power, gosh knows you all suffer greatly watching men "run into as well as away…with theirs."
I will admit I have been hard on you. Please forgive me, as I have to forgive your own sarcastic and passively aggressive (if not veiled nasty) "Dear Hillary."
I will gladly and freely admit that the Clintons were arrogant (you and I can both observe this from our own personal experience, wink*). They ran as if they were the King and Queen, entitled to the throne. I can see their point (Bill Clinton is the only two-term Democratic President in over 40 years), but life trumps politics. So it is fair to say, get real Clintons. So I not only sense, but understand your own snobbery and seeming disdain for the Clintons.
However, I will warn you about Barack Obama, (being a Californian by birth, astrology can be an intellectual if not philosophical handicap of mine) he was born a Lion; LEO. I have rarely if ever met a Leo who did not have arrogance, and sense of entitlement to deal with internally themselves. Mr. Obama is a Harvard graduate, can I say elitist, even if he is a kind and benevolent one like you. Prudie, stop being such a clamoring- batting her eyes woman, and get that BO is a POLITICIAN. As you stated, "Obama is consumed with the idea of his own authenticity, and part of his appeal is the sense that when he speaks he doesn't first weigh every word on the diamond scale of political calculation." Let me say this again Prudie, he is a POLITICIAN, a lion seeking to rule the biggest den in the world.
Do I need to say more above to make my obvious point?
Keep it real good woman, trust me, you could use a Dear Prudie letter from Hillary. Barack Obama is a smooth operator, he may even prove to be better then Bill, he certainly has more scruples then he. Do not delude yourself, or be so naive, he hires his dirty work out like most young politicians. He damns HRC for her political machinery, but uses one of the most corrupt and political empires- the Kennedy's to climb on top. How his supporters, especially young supporters ignore this lack of political congruency drives me insane!
I am a staunch if not strong liberal; I was raised in one most liberal counties in the United States let alone California (Santa Cruz County).
If your so arrogant to dismiss 18 million votes, if you and your constituency is unwilling to compromise with more then half the democratic electorate so be it. You do not need her, your correct. I will feely write, Barack Obama won the 2008 Democratic Primary, flawed or not, he won by the rules.
He will likely be the President in 2009, he will certainly be so with Hillary (Billary) on the ticket. You do the math, as he won by it.
If you constituency wishes to rid itself of the Clintons once and for all, ignore their vastly formidable power (constituency) in building-leading the Democratic Party for over the last 15 years, again so be it.
I can only say, such arrogance leaves you open to the same peril that has befallen the Clintons. Your position with "Dear Hillary," will not fully unify the party, and it does not speak to BO's ability to work with those he may not get on well with; Republican or otherwise.
Barack Obama did quote Lincoln once did he not, referring to how he planned to use his enemies within. Was he serious when he said this? Perhaps President LBJ said it best concerning one of his greatest rivals, J Edgar Hoover, "It's probably better to have him inside the tent pissing out, then outside pissing in."
If only you girls could get over your clamoring competition as prizes of the Patrichary, and follow such good advice amongst yourselves. Do not feel too bad at your guilt of inherent infighting, gay men can be even worse with one another. Are any of us better off for it; you already know the answer to that question as a WOMAN.
Sincerely disappointed in a good woman,
MPP*
