The right-wing is always bitching...

...about the politically correct censorship of the of the left. But let a company decide for itself what holidays it wants to observe, or how to draw a damn eagle on its home page and listen to them whine.

The heyday of leftwing political correctness was probably back in the Eighties. The right got into controlling language during the Bush administration, if you ask me. Homicide bombers and freedom fries and the death tax. Guys like Frank Luntz were at the forefront. These days they're totally obsessed with image over reality. They're worried about Rachel Ray's terrorist headscarf and Obama's terrorist fist jab. Pretty funny, in a way, but also rather sad.

I've got to agree. Changing their logo the way Google does sounds like the sort of obscure, unusual reference I would do with my friends if I owned a company just to get a laugh. I might pick the lauching of sputnik or the birthday of the first dog in space just because it's obscure, and in it's own obscurity kind of funny. It's an intellectual inside joke to see if everyone gets it. It doesn't mean that I believe the Russians were great, or that I support them, or anything like that.

This is the same sort of crap my Christian friends would pull. I don't say a prayer, and suddenly, I'm trying to bar them from practacing their religion.

Sputnik was, indeed, a very, very significant event and a very significant accomplishment. Why not give it some due? By the Right's reasoning, should all Russians be barred from acknowledging humans landing on the Moon, since it was done by evil Americans?

I used to know a satellite tech engineer who told me he got started on his career path in electronics due to the thrill of tracking Sputnik's signal when he was a kid. I guess he was a smart kid; I can't remember how he said he did it!

Maybe I should have grilled him on his Communist "leanings"... Or at least reported him to Homeland Security...

and by whine you mean using their free speech rights in response? Just so I understand, if Google uses their right to free speech, that is great. If conservatives reply, then they are whining?

Re-read your US Constitution. Free speech is freedom from government interference. No one here is suggesting that the government silence or condone the silencing of the right wing. The comments merely criticize what the right wing is doing (i.e., whining), which is often what happens when one exercises his speech (yes, he can be criticized for whining). Or, as you put it, the commenters are exercising their free speech.

Please come back with another argument in support of what the right-wing is doing. If you had actually studied the constitution you would know that none of this post violates the Constitution.

brnInAlAin,

Yes, free speech does in fact cover whines in addition to productive discussion.

Bringing up free speech highlights another rightwing habit over the last few years -- the victim complex, maybe best exemplified by "The War On Christmas" About six anecdotes a year from a country of 300 million, most of which turn out to be deceptive. Some war! But of course "the liberal media, the activist judges, the ACLU, they're all out to get us!"

I certainly don't want to restrict the rightwing's tendency to political correctness. When feminists and other leftwingers in the Eighties became politically correct, talking about firepersons or whatever, it made them look petty and ridiculous. Witness the reaction to Michelle Malkin getting Rachel Ray's Dunkin Donuts advert canned. It was much the same kind of ridicule.
