women and election 2008
by katdancer

I love reading the advice of young men and women to us old broads when it comes to the upcoming election. Just hold your nose and vote for Senator O they say. Think of all the great government programs his election may bring, programs that might not be created if his opponent wins.

The advice assumes that the best way to take care of mothers and children is through massive new government programs controlled by Congress and the Washington bureaucracy. Perhaps it is, but maybe, just maybe, Senator McCain has different legitimate ways to meet those needs. Might be worth listening for.

The advice of the XXer's reminds me of the advice given to young brides in days gone by. Forget about the guy you love. Just hold your nose and marry the guy your parents have chosen for you and let him take care of you and your future children. Don't look at anyone other than the person your party, I mean parents chose. They know best.

to Thevail regarding Do Tell: Wish I could be I can't. I'm not advocating a vote for McCain or anyone else. I don't know who I'll vote for in November but I haven't voted for a Republican for president in more than 30 years.

I'm just tired of being condescended to by young'ins who still know everything. We had a saying back in the sixties that had to do with what you could do if you couldn't take a joke. Keeps coming to mind as I read the advice of youngsters who never had to crash through any ceiling anywhere but they know how those of us who did should feel and act. I'm probably envious since I knew almost as much as they did when I was their age but lately I'm much less astute.

And besides, I'll bet Cicero's mom felt the same way about the young pundits of her day!

You and me both :)

I'm 40, I don't know if that's young to you, lately I'm discovering young and old are relative statements.

I'm trying to grow up about now..funny thing that. When I was younger and should have been "growing up" I was always either way too tired or way too busy to bother looking outside my little box. Nothing like a screaming toddler to keep your communal consciousness in a coma.
