Use of image is highly offensive
by KevClark64

The use of the Blessed Mother's image on this article is offensive. The article has nothing to do with Christian beliefs, and the offense is therefore entirely gratuitous.

Unless this is an intentional affront to Christians, Slate must remove this image immediately.

The article is about religion and virginity -- it's a totally relevant image. Please leave it.

So you wouldn't have a problem if say a story about a Republican congressman's sex scandal was illustrated with a donkey logo?

UNAMERICAN ,ANTI FREE SPEECH THEOCRATIC FACIST!

I'm not sure what a "facist" is. Perhaps you meant fascist. In any case, Slate is perfectly free to put up idiotic and patently offensive items without government interference. It's not fascist nor un-American to point out that although they are free to do so, they should not do so. The real James Madison would have understood the difference.

The perpetual outrage machine strikes again.

Based on your response, I can only assume that you don't stand for anything, so therefore "you would fall for anything".

If anyone were to make a comment about YOUR Mother, or YOUR belief system, I doubt also that you would have the courage to be part of the "outrage machine" since it is obvious you have no values of any kind. I would also be willing to bet, you are against organized religion, and haven't seen the inside of your chuch, mosque, or temple, since you were 7 yrs. old.

You will be in our prayers for wisdom.

Exactly, the papist blasphemy on display is a graven image that insults every true christian who stands against superstition and idolatry ...

... or maybe the image of Mary is a universally accepted symbol of virginity and its worship, and (the various in-fighting factions of) christianity don't "own" the image or its interpratation.

You've heard of metaphor, now grow a thicker skin and read another blog if you are so affronted ...

Wow, you learned all that about me from one line of text. And you can use bold font. You must possess greater wisdom than I could ever hope for.
