Casting honest eyes on the rest of the planet
by Rex Range
Thank God a reporter is honest enough to spotlight the truth: that racism is not just a disaster in the U.S. but in too many parts of the world...maybe every part. Beyond whatever you may feel about policy, if the U.S. elects Obama perhaps it will get the momentum rolling in as the suits say, ROW: "Rest of world." All you had to do was follow international soccer anytime over the past five years (including just this past year) to see hideous and widespread examples of white sub-humans in supposedly sparkling cultural enclaves such as Spain and Italy verbally and physically assaulting black players--from their own home teams as well as the opposing teams--before/during/after soccer matches. I couldn't believe that as moronic as much of the U.S. can be, especially at sporting events, we were light-years more "advanced" than our European colleagues when it came to openly racist acts on and around the field of play. Everyone on earth should have this motto: I DON'T CARE WHO YOU ARE. SHOW ME WHAT YOU DO. Period. If we did, racism (and a ton of other societal evils) simply wouldn't exist. And we could get past these idiotic "big questions" to focus on all the REAL issues that need fixing on our planet. Together. Can't any of you see that? And start living it? What's the matter with you?

No; they can't. Reason being is that one side thinks the other side is always being racist regardless of facts, figures, and common sense. It is commonly known that many "people-of-color" and "apologetic whites" think whites are inherently racist and that this is a condition not found in other races.

Yes; it would be great if the world's motto was as you stated; but as long as people keep trying to make one race the scapegoat of the worlds evils and ills, your motto will never be a reality.

Agreed. I can never imagine American football fans throwing bananas onto the field of their own teams or a coach spurring his players on by saying, on tape,"Beat that black s***." The media backlash and public outroar is enough to make my head spin just thinking about it.

I think that, for better or worse, this is a MAJOR difference between American racism and racism in other parts of the world. In the US, it's completely unacceptable to be openly racist. In people's own minds, there may be the same amount of racism here and there, but I think as a culture it's much less tolerated in the US.

So you are saying the KKK doesn't exist?

no racism in the US, no black person ever get abused because of his or her colour, and the huge majority of black people in US prison is actually representative of their unlawfull activities?...let's be honest please!

buggie- I wish that were so. Many inter-racial (black/white)couples that I know are far more comfortable living in various European countries than the US. And generally, in the US, they feel "targeted" by both whites and blacks.

It would help to understand this issue better if you first ask the question "What is Racisim" A little real investigation into this issue will probably serve you better in trying to address it. Many people just react without ever peeling the onion.

Consider that you have just imagined what you say you could not imagine as an example of Racisim. The fact that you have reavealed your lucid imagination on this issue and mentally held it in check because of the possible Media reaction should tell you that it is not out of reach. The fact is that it does happen and in many examples other than your own. The question is should it be held in check by the Media or should it be a thing of the past because of the Public outrage of people like you, who opposes it wherever and whenever it reared it's ugly head ?

An honest but still troubling commentary. Racisim open or closeted is still very problamatic. Open Racisim is is like the enemy that you can see and confront, closeted Racisim is like the enemy that stands is the shadows and stabs you in the back as you pass by without any opportunity to defend yourself. The cultural danger is not in how much less or more the level of tolerance is in a Society, it is rather the chalenge of how to change systemic, structural and instutional attitudes for the benifit of the whole society. Racisim is not an attitude or behaviour to be tolerated more or less, it is a call to arms against a common enemy. Unortunately, many still react wrongy to this issue by just circling the wagons.
