Bush legacy one of dedication

President Bush's legacy will be one of dedication and determination to face odds found in both the democratic and republican parties. He stayed the course on pro life issues and in doing so saved how many American lives. How many women were spared the grief of "choosing" to kill their first or second or third born because someone cared enough to say what they always knew. Every woman knows that life begins at conception. Once a woman is pregnant she is a mother for life, whether she aborts the child or gives birth. She knows it. She loves that child. And the "choice" given her causes her lifetime grief. Women are the second victim. Sooner or later there will be a backlash from mothers without their children. And they will be sick of a society that refuses to address their grief because they "chose" this. Being persuaded to act against your own best interests has a name, and it is not "freedom of choice".

If Bush is so "pro-life," they why didn't he push a Republican congress that was happy to do his dirty work for six years to pass more anti-abortion laws?

How does life begin at conception, and not before? Are not the egg and the sperm alive, full of the potential for human life? Why limit youself to the moment the sperm and egg meet?

And if fertilized eggs are "humans," then should not we do more to save the 60-80% of fertilzed eggs that fail to implant and are naturally flushed out of every woman's body? That's millions of "deaths" every year in this country, far more than are lost to abortion.

I don't know how someone who claims to be pro-life can be proud of Bush for saving lives. First of all, his pro-life stance hasn't saved anyone. The abortion rate in the United States has remained the same since he was elected. Furthermore, his policies in Iraq have killed thousands of Americans and tens of thousands of Iraqis (including children).

Bush is very well known for his dedication in the face of polls of the general public, outside advise, and logic itself. Dedication to a certain Secretary of Defense. Dedication to limiting embryonic stem cell research funding in the face of 60% of the public. Dedication to strict federal sentencing guidelines for people who aren't in his inner circle. Dedication to... Well, you get the picture.

Dedication can be a very positive attribute in a leader, but it can easily cause the leader to make bad decisions by ignoring others. For example, if Bush had taken everyone's advise and booted Rumsfeld earlier, Iraq would probably be better off right now.

Don't get me wrong, some resistance to poll numbers is good; frankly there are a lot of uninformed idiots in the general population. But when taken to the extreme of the leaders like many in the Bush administration, a weakening of democracy and eventual disaster are inevitable.

Of course

Part of the one issue anti abortion crowd. You are not pro life you are a pathetic believer in superstitious nonsense.

Real Americans mind their own business.

No one persuades any one to have an abortion, how dare you even imply that, it is a choice and it is a constitutional right.

If you were as concerned for real live people like our soldiers and the innocent Iraqis we have killed as you are for a non entity then you might have a little credibility.

Republican respect for life begins at conception and ends at birth.

It may resume for someone who's brian is no longer functioning. (as exhibited by the Terri Shiavo case)

Republicans apparently have a great deal of respect for life so long as it doesn't exist within a person capable of voicing disagreement with them.

And yet Theresa's family insisted that she was responding to them. How interesting that you would denigrate their views to not worthy of examination. Yet, the president didnt'. Don't you wonder at the machincation in place that allowed her to be put to death in the sight of all of America in spite of her parents protests? C'mon now.

The senate and the house have to vote for it and then it goes to Bush.
