First career
by Rocket88

When I was about to graduate from college, back it the Bush I days, I intended to be a journalist. Then I got a very clear picture of how the journalism industry works. Someone very smart said to me: "the things we write are just meant to take up space between ads."

If there was a way to legislate morality, I would legislate this: every daily newspaper should be privately owned by one family with a sense of noblesse oblige. A family that is content to merely make lots of money with that newspaper, instead of a corporation that demands a higher return on its investment every single quarter.

Gosh, if I extend your friend's groundbreaking thought, does that mean that the guy who works at the corner convenience store does so, not to see to it that I have my daily dose of sugar and caffein and regular gas, but to make money for the owner?

The bastard!

That's a horrible analogy. The words are given away for free, subsidized by the ads. You're paying for the coffee, although the sugar is subsidized, as is the gas that you are buying, by everyone who pays federal taxes.

Don't begin your post if you don't know where it's headed.

northwoods, you have no idea what an analogy is, don't you?
Re: Dear horrible alalguy,

You should have said: "Northwoods, you have no idea what an analogy is, do you?"

No and don't make a double negative.

BTW, I uderstand analogies, and that one sucks.
