Song of the Self-congratulatory

Hillary Clinton was able to throw out of few thank-you's and a contradiction or two before getting on to the important subject of her speech -- herself. Telling us that "every moment wasted looking back keeps us from looking forward" and warning us "not to go there", but asking us to wonder what could have been if there were a Democrat in the White House the last seven years...twenty years...forty years is probably the most glaring conflict. An obvious attempt to plant the seed of a self-fulfilling prophecy in the minds of those who will cry for her and can't wait for the day that they can say "I told you so!".

And maybe more of a nullification than a contradiction, giving an endorsement to Obama, but explaining in the same speech that she always felt that she was the best candidate for the position doesn't really ring true. I can't imagine G.W. Bush endorsing McCain, but then explaining in the same speech that we'd be better off if he were elected for a third term (actually I wouldn't put it passed him).

I did not expect to hear a sincere endorsement of Obama, but I never imagined to hear a speech on how consequential and momentous her campaign was. I would think that someone that has reached the stature of a historic figure that she has claimed to have attained, would not have to sing her own praises at her concession speech.

The reason that the major media talking heads were "dumbfounded" that Hillary did not acknowledge that Obama had the nomination sealed up was that anyone with third grade math skills could see that the outcome had been inevitable for weeks. Hillary wasted everyone's time, gave McCain ammunition against Obama for the coming months, took the money of her supporters under the guise that she had a chance to win, and in the end, praised herself for doing so.

I say let it go dude. Let her have her moment. Who cares about the little details? Let's have peace.

Hey, I'm all for peace. I put a substantial amount of effort into that message. Can't you just let me have my moment? Just say "well put, now let's get Obama in the whitehouse" in your reply. Thank you.

Okay, Jacob, you've got your moment. Now let me pass this message on to the Obama Campaign: Open Letter to Barack Obama

I, like many others have three major concerns:

1. Choosing Hillary Clinton as a running mate wouldd be truly detrimental to all the hard work you have done over the past eighteen months. She has gone on record saying that you were 'too naive' to be the president. She says that she is the stronger candidate, implying that you were weak.
You ran your campaign on change, and choosing Hillary is not change. Perhaps, if more people reminded her that she is not the first woman to seek the presidency, she wwould be more humble. NY Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm was the first woman and African American to do so in 1972.
One of the first rules of war is to 'alwys protect your rear flank'. You cannot successfully do that with Bill always at your back. Everyone knows that where Hillary goes, so goes Bill and they ALWAYS have a hidden agenda. If you trust them, you are the only one who does.

2. The buzz is that she wants you to pay off her campaign debt, or help with it. To do this, I believe you would lose many of your small donors. Your position on this should be made crystal clear with your suppost base. I, like many others live on fixed incomes and any amount we send you is a sacrifice. We don't mind sending it to YOU, but we would object mightily if we felt it was going to help the Clintons with their campaign debt. She loves to boast about her 18,000,000 white working class voters; perhaps if they each would send he $3.00, it would easily retire her debt to herself and her campaign. Even if they paid it off, they would still have at least 50 t0 60 million dollars left.

3. Many of us feel that you were and are being blackmailed into these two positions, by the media and Clinton supporters on both counts: The V.P. slot and the campaign debt payment assistance. Personally, I would love to see you pick Bill Richardson as the V.P. He was the first truly strong Clinton supporter to come out for you, and he is of Spanish heritage. Two minorities running this country would make a dynamite statement to all the overt, covert and closet racist in this country.

Thes are all just my opinions. I truly hope that you heed at least some of them.

I think that it would be a great idea for Obama to agree to pay off HRC's campaign debt..with conditions.

As an additional fact that makes this easier to swallow, please understand that Obama CAN'T give her "his" donations. It's against the law. He has to help her hold seperate fundraisers etc. to provide that money. So my money that I donated to Obama's campaign will not be the money that is used for this.

1) Pay it off, but only after the convention in August, a bit carrot, a bit stick, and a big insurance policy that she'll keep her mouth shut about any BS at the convention, even if he doesn't pick her for VP.

2) Looked at a certain way, what the heck, having Bill and Hillary Clinton, who are remarkable popular politicians campaigning with certain groups that Obama has problems with, is well worth the money. He'd have to pay it in advertising and TV spots anyway, and those ads wouldn't be half as effective as a Clinton personal appearance, think of it as hiring them for PR work.

Let her pay off her own debts. She's got her own money, she just won't use it.

Hillary, her spouse and her staffers would overrun an early Obama presidency. Use the ticket to boost foreign policy or economic chops, forget about "healing." Richardson or Biden would be so much better, and so much more supportive.
