I will never vote for a man again

If Cynthia gets on the Utah ballot
by biteoftheweek

I am going to try to trade my vote for her with someone's vote for Obama in a swing state.

I like the concept of vote trading
by Dawn Coyote
but I don't really understand it.

Hey hey hey. Hold it up there now...

We can't be proving a stereotype. lol

Let me explain
by biteoftheweek

Because, as the Gore loss in 2000 proves, we don't really live in a democracy. Only state delegate counts, count. And in the general election, a candidate who wins a state by one vote will be assigned all the delegates for that state.

I live in the reddest of the red states. Hell, Bush still has a positive approval rating here. So my vote in the Utah general elections counts for shit. However, if I traded it for someone who would have otherwised voted for Cynthia or Nader in a swing state--it might count for something.

The number of votes nationally that a third party candidate gets is important. If they get 5% of the national vote in the last election, they get invited to debates, etc.

Does that make any sense at all?

Thanks for explaining.

off topic: one of the women on another site explains her project, "Five Dollar Dicks": she sends five dollars to any artist who depicts male genitalia in his or her art.
Interesting.

Imagine what she would have said if I had topposted: I will never vote for a woman, ever.

Some of these women need to move beyond the 60s and 70s.

Don't you mean, "some of these bitches?"

Well, you know...

...I would never say "some of those bitches." But what of Woolley's underlying argument, which is that sexism doesn't make sense whichever way you point it?

I would never claim to be a perfect feminist (partly because I think that there's an argument to be made that it's impossible for me to understand the female perspective), but I'm more of a feminist than say, Phyllis Schlafly. Yet, when Phyllis and I are running for president in the British Columbia Primary, Dawn is going to vote for Phyllis, based simply on the fact that Phyllis has two X chromosomes to my one. (Or is not going to vote, which pretty much amounts to the same thing.)

I get it. I understand the idea of not voting for the lesser of two evils. That's exactly the same logic that got us a war in Iraq, and people drowning in New Orleans, and two Supreme Court Justices that have (or will) set equal rights for women back fifty years.
