scion xd a badass?
by waltz n capsize

no matter how many riffed color schemes the scion.com site flashed; the neon stripes, cammoflauge, etc, the scion still looks like a friendly sort of clown car. there's nothing wrong with that, it's just not a deviant badass.

it's just not. it's too cute.

the car doesn't carry toyota's intended image and the scion/ deviant trailer is likewise fairly misguided. i felt sorry for the sheeple-- i thought they were cute. moreover, beheading is just a little bit too current event to be entertaining. finally, most importantly, why does the narration rhyme?

the rhymes are not like rap. there is no disassociative slice and dice to them-- no da-daism, nothing threatening, sharp or even emo to them. just a bad story set to rhyme.

here's the thing: i'm a 44 year old mother of many. quit killing sheeple, skip the loser rhyme scheme and market the car to me. i'd buy it. but if it would make toyota advertisers feel better, i'd kick the salesman and say some curse words when i signed the purchase agreement. i can be a badass, too.

LOL! Good one, waltz!

I have to agree. The whole thing looks pretty contrived to me.

Sort of like a leather jacket on the Easter Bunny.

The cats are pretty much all right. Miss Ella, Queen of the Chair, She of the Beautiful Paws has finished her chemo. She has mesenteric lymphoma, and the last ultrasound looked good, except for a small spot....but she's going to be 17 this year, and we opted for no more treatment.

On the up side, since she's off the drugs she's put on weight and is pounding on the big guy again. If she gets sick again...well, we know what has to happen. I'll be miserable. She's a good buddy.

The Big Guy, aka Louis the Monster Cat is probably healthier than you or I, even though he's the same age as Ella and he's a diabetic. It's funny, I always thought he'd be the one to get sick.

I'm ticking along. Looks like a friend and I are going to start a business. I'm getting on with the research, but it's a good idea. Who knows, I may finally be able to indulge my car habit one day. Then you can come and roar around in a Porsche or two...

How are the kids?

Re: hey you girl,

messy,

thanks for asking. the kids are mostly OK. our out-there son is still out there. we pray.

baby turned one this week.

oldest son and his wife are expecting a baby. we're thrilled.

oldest daughter told us this week she is entering the convent this august (just a few weeks away.) www.stjean.com is her chosen order. we had a LOT of questions and conversation but we think she's really got it together on this one. smart, insightful girl.

if you are going to indulge your car lust in your new business, good for you! sure, i'll test drive anything you ask.

maybe you could expertly offer some advertising advice about avoiding the decapitation of upright sheep for car-enthusiast sport.

keep us posted. make a good go of it! there's aparently a ton of money to be made in this world. didja read the Slate article on crocs???? 200 million??? what? that's profit or the operating anual budget of a mid-sized nation????

go make some cash, Messy!

Don't count the bucks, I don't even know if we can copyright the design yet!

Congrats on the pending grandbaby! You'll be the youngest, hippest grandma on the block. Little kids are a great deal of fun when they aren't your own. You get to give them back when they get cranky, fussy, etc. It's like getting all the benefits of a cute baby without the sleep deprivation.

It sounds like your daughter has a definite plan. When I mentioned this to The Boy, he asked why she doesn't join an order that makes an alcoholic beverage, something about family discounts...smarta**! Does she have to leave the country?

Sorry to hear about your son, waltz. I know exactly how tough it is to deal with this situation. The only thing you can do is wait, because the only one that can help him is himself.

Re: hey you girl,

hi messy,

she may eventually go to france. for now she is staying stateside. as for brewing anything, i don't know. i'll have to ask. a vocation with benefits.... hmmmm... not a bad idea. though, having a kid who prays for me all day is fairly advantageous.

as for son, yes. we wait, pray, cry, regroup. repeat.

finally, i like kids, sleep deprivation and all. you know i've been parenting for 27 yaears and our youngest is only one year old. i don't know how to function if not for sleep deprivation. sleep deprivation is what drives me, motivates me, inspires me. i'm all about sleep deprivation. (really, if i were allowed to sleep as long as i wanted, i think my first uninterrupted stint would be about 4 days long.)

as for your enterpreneurial endeavor, you will rock the world! think rubics cubes, furbies and macintosh and crocs.

there's gold in them thar hills!

I have no problem with the car. I think they are pretty neat. Toyota has always delivered a good product. I have a real hard time with the ad though. If you have ever watch the execution of Nick Berg, by terrorists in Iraq, you will see the similarities between the "sheeples" head and the head of Nick Berg. I will give the artists who did the drawing the benifit of the doubt, I can't imagine them doing something like that on purpose, but the add made me sick to my stomach when I saw it. I am glad some of the TV stations have decided not to show it. I really think it is in poor taste. The car speaks for itself, I dont think they needed to make an add like that to promote it.
