Dear Angry White Women

From today's Chicago Sun-Times:

Obama Need to Pacify Angry White Women

Since it's copyrighted, I can't do a C&P, but I'll summarize Charles Babington's column.

Barack Obama has some "urgent making up to do among angry white women."

Seems as though white women are very upset with my Junior Senator for derailing Senator Clinton's chance to become the next president. According to CB, it's older white women that are the most upset because of sex discrimination they've encountered in their lives.

Susie Buell, a Clinton fund raiser from San Francisco says that it's Obama who must heal the rift, or there will be a "new brand of stay at home moms come November."

"I know that women are very worked up right now" said Susie "and Obama has never apologized for the way Hillary has been treated."

Well. First of all, I'd like to apologize on behalf of Senator Obama for the way Hillary has been treated, but I can't.

If Susie thinks Obama owes Senator Clinton an apology, then I think Susie is out of her fucking mind. What exactly is Obama supposed to apologize for?

He's been called inexperienced, elitist, not fit to be Commander in Chief, friends with criminals, friends with extremists, friends with 1960s terrorist bombers, friends with freak pastors, husband to an America hater, an appeaser to Iranian terrorists, a secret Muslim,...

Apologize for the way Hillary has been treated? Yeah OK.

While I have repeatedly pointed out on this board that an Obama/Clinton ticket would make great sense, Barack owes Hillary nothing. NOTHING!

The campaign was tough on both candidates, and the last month or two have accomplished exactly nothing other than damage Obama's chances for the White House. This thing was over by Super Tuesday, and Hillary's campaign team damn well knew it.

Senator Clinton stayed in this race hoping that Obama would shoot himself in the foot. Well he didn't so fucking deal with it. If in defeat, Clinton's supporters feel entitled (that word again) to a strong voice in the next administration, I think they should do a bit of soul searching. Do they think that in defeat Obama would have been entitled to dictate terms to Clinton? I think not.

If Clinton had won, they'd have danced on Obama's face and told him to shut up and go back to the Senate. Not Hillary mind you. Being a smart politician, she'd have said and done whatever she felt was necessary to get Obama's supporters on board, as I expect Obama to do now.

For purposes of discussion, I'll merely use the posters on this board as my sampling of Hillary's supporters. It's already clear that your disappointment will cause many of you to not vote for Obama.

It started yesterday with stupid claims about Obama supporters wanting Hillary on her knees, salting wounds, and sore winner syndrome. Some posters have laid out litmus tests to determine if Barack has integrity, while others have already begun speaking of what a nice experienced guy McCain is.

I can think of nothing that Obama has said to or about Clinton that would merit this kind of reaction from Clinton's supporters, nor merit an "apology for the way Hillary was treated."

As far as I'm concerned Susie Buell can stay home. And Cynthia Ruccia and her pissed off group of angry white women can stay home too. Not only are they a bunch of sore losers, they're a bunch of sore losers who define their political position in terms of gender.

You want a strong voice in the Obama administration? Let me give you a hint: He has run his campaign on a theme of inclusion, which means everyone has a voice. Not just blacks. Not just whites. Not just men. Not just women.

Everyone.

So if you think that, in defeat, Hillary's supporters are in a position to force Barack to bow down, to get on his knees, and beg a bunch of sexists to vote for him in November, you may be disappointed yet again.

With some of you it won't much matter, frankly, because you live in states that will never cast their electoral votes for Obama. I won't name names, you know who you are.

If your disappointment at Hillary's defeat is deep enough for you to prefer John McCain, I can't help you, and neither can Barack. If you're a Hillary supporter who will now vote for McCain, you are quite simply, politically insane.

If you're a Hillary supporter who is deeply disappointed, and plans on staying home, you're not much more sane, but at least you can differentiate between McCain and Clinton.

If you're not sure if you'll vote or not, I urge you to back Obama as he's certain to be more of the voice you want in Washington than McCain. Not that McCain's a bad guy, it's just that he's 4 more years of what the US is already sick to death.

Are you an angry white woman? Are you angry at Barack Obama?

Why?

It's far more factions than women. This is media hype
by LaurieAnnM

Because Blue collar men are outraged at the media's treatment and the affirmative action candidacy of Obama as well.

Her other base core suppoorters are hispanics, gays, working professionals and para professionals, cops firemen, lawyers, etc.

She has a huge and massive browd base of supporters...it's a media attempt to simply demean women by suggesting they are shrill or angry and suggesting they are the only ones who are angry about The Affirmative Action candidacy of Obama.

Millions of Americans , men, women hispanics, gays, working blue collar people...are also just as mad about this sham of an Affirmative Action Candidacy.

Nice try though, putz.

Mr. Babington certainly didn't help Obama with that. Can't understand why his supporters are making it more difficult to rally the Dem base than it already is for him. Guess they want revenge. It'll come at a steep price.

He's reporting what he's hearing.

Wow. That was quite a screed. Expect an avalanche, it's coming.

I suspect he's reporting his own views. There's been a lot of that going on in the media the past few months. Many a reporter has stopped being a reporter/journalist and become an advocate.

Just Women?

Babingont is leaning on the now dated expression "Angry White Men" for his title. He's wrong. Clinton has 18 million followers who have voted for her and a good many more who, like myself, voted early on for Obama and then tired of his lame "hope and change" mantra.

Yesterday, I posted in a response to the Bell a kind of roadmap to party unity that I think might actually work:

The Obama people have to talk to the Clinton people and work this out:

1. Clinton concedes at last and promises to work for Democratic victory and to exhort her supporters to shift their support to Obama.

2. Obama offers the VP slot to Clinton as a peacemaking gesture.

3. Clinton declines the VP offer, but again promises to work tirelessly for victory.

4. The pay off for the angry Clintonistas: Obama acknowledges the machinations by Howard Dean, et al., to railroad Clinton's candidacy, asks Dean, Brazile, et al., to step down, and appoints a Clinton aide (NOT Terry McAuliffe) as acting chair. Maybe Clinton herself would like this job.

5. Obama would promise that Clinton's delegates would be heard at the convention and that they would have a say in the party's platform.

Pres-i-dent Mc-Cain...

now say it with me...

President McCain President McCain President McCain

President McCain President McCain President McCain

President McCain President McCain President McCain

President McCain President McCain President McCain

President McCain President McCain President McCain

President McCain President McCain President McCain

Nonsense.

Clinton could do what the losing GOP candidates did and suck it up and support him without pre-conditions. Then and only then should she be considered a team player. Until that happens, she must be viewed as a drain upon the party and the election. Remember that the GOP is now creating TV spots showing Clinton say that McCain and her are the only ones with the experience to lead this nation in a time of war. That alone was an unforgiveable sin. It is up to her to kiss Obama's ass, not the other way around. A true leader first establishes immediately who is the boss. Once that is clear, you can be magnanimous and inclusive. Sorry big guy but your plan creates a ticket that is basically gutless and open to ridicule.
It's a good plan.

Except I actually think Hillary would be a lousy person for the DNC job - he needs someone who can appeal to both sides of the divide.

I also think Clinton has no business being Speaker of the House - Pelosi is the first woman to hold that position. It'd be a betrayal, of sorts, if Clinton took that away from her as a political payoff.

I don't think Obama needs to overtly acknowledge Dean's machinations. I think he needs to make a potent gesture, however, that contradicts Dean's continued polarization against the Clintonistas. He needs to distance himself from Dean and demonstrate his desire to reunify the party.

And the DNC really does need new leadership. Badly.

Re: Start practicing these words

If so, you can lay the blame squarely on Clinton.
She isn't in the house
by biteoftheweek

She's in the Senate

Senate Majority leader sounds good to me. Reid is definitely not doing any kind of job there.

Clinton can actually make things happen.

Obama is too smart
by justoffal

to let it get to that point....

He is not my choice but I have to say that I do like his rhetoric...I just don't trust him...it's not as easy as he says it is...that much I know for sure.

In any case he is not going to be pupetted by his over zealous followers into a feud with a 48% opponent...that would be just plain stupid and he is not stupid...not by a long shot. His next smart move will be an all out campaign to reach the Clinton supporters and he will begin that now I believe...look for it...maybe today.
