I would like to thank those behind the Deathwatch column for their dedication to the role of messenger-to-be-shot.
It is rare that the cause of Democracy is served by concealing or ignoring an important truth, however saddening or distasteful that truth may be. For many weeks now, the Deathwatch column has faithfully told a story that you'd have been hard pressed to find elsewhere in the media. In a world obsessed with the horse race, Deathwatch had the courage to acknowledge that the outcome was no longer in doubt.
Some astonishing accusations have been made regarding the now-vindicated assessment that the end of Hillary Clinton's campaign was inevitable. This column has been called sexist, tasteless, elitist, reverse-racist, and other things even less worthy of repetition. None of these attacks were warranted. And now that this edition of Deathwatch has reached its conclusion, I want to thank its creators. I'll take fact over tact anyday.
