Gabby and the gym
by TJA
I think there is a far simple solution to the problem of the talkative man at the gym. Buy an iPod, put on your headphones, and don't listen to him.
What's with the animation?

So the girl is portrayed as a young (ok normal, she's a twentysomething), sexy blonde. The guy is an unattractive, pot-bellied, vaguely Jewish-looking loser.

The animator is implying, I think, that if the guy was younger, hotter, waspier, the LW would find his banter charming...

(Caveat: As usual, I haven't watched the video.)

I used to work with a middle-plus-aged, pot bellied, Indian guy, who would go to the gym and leer at the young women, and who was convinced that the waitresses thought he was hot. (He would regularly leave a $20 bill for $5 tabs to get this reaction.)

If the guy she apparently presumes is hitting on her is anything like the guy I worked with, ignoring him won't make him go away. She'll have to be direct and tell him she's not interested in further conversation. Then, after he ignores what she's told him - and he will - complain to the management.

without an iPod. ha! I'm serious. If it goes dead, I quit.

Why doesn't she just say: "I can't talk now"?

Quite frankly, I think some women send mix signals. You want the hot guys to look at you so you wear attractive clothes, but you don't want the fat blobs to look at you. Just like at the bars or clubs.

And I feel sorry for Gabby. He needs to get a life. Knowing how men are, he probably stalks the gym just to talk to her. Gabby needs some male friends first.

Haven't you ever seen the SNL skit pertaining to sexual harassment?

(My work machine doesn't have flash installed - so apologies if they've taken down the video...)
