Now I understand Clinton
by obamademonominee
Clinton didn't just wana drop outta the race after the Obama's south Carolina win, she wanted to make sure that she finished the primaries till the end to ensure her supporters don't count her as a weak candidate. Oh now she wants the VP post, I think its the best idea for unifying the party and winning against Mccain come November.

You make a simple, and even obvious, statement; and I think you've summed up the entire situation perfectly.

Although I personally loathe Hillary, it sort of DOES seem to be the only way ahead to have her as VP--at least it feels that way today...

I don't know -- when I read about Bill talking shit in the rope lines and he is SO clueless about technology and the politics of TODAY he makes adding Hillary to the ticket like adding a time bomb!!

Then you look at McAuliffe's drunken moment on TV ("Live from Puerto Rico") and you have to shake your head and wonder what the hell these guys are thinking -- or if they're thinking AT ALL!

I'm not a Hillary fan. But I can understand her drive and her determination to be taken seriously and to have a real presence. However, I loathe Bill. I find him to be a crass, crude, anathema to everything I believe in about hope and change and Obama.

He is baggage, baggage, baggage and honestly I think HE will keep Hillary off the ticket.

If Obama is smart.

Good thinking: pick as your vice president someone half the country hates, who has been exposed as an opprtunistic demagogue, who carries a history of scandal, whose principles you reject, and who has said she is hanging around in case someone kills you. Yeah, that makes sense, doesn't it? The Clintons are ready to be rejected from the body politic. Good riddance!

What disadvantage could come about Obama if he choses to select another VP? Do you think he'll be able to win the general Elections?

I as previous posts loath Hillary. Her thinking is of monumental power and she will keep swinging until she is knocked out!

KNOCK HER OUT

NO VP

a&s,

I share your viewpoints. However, on the plus side is the fact that the VP has no real independent power (unless it's GIVEN to the VP, as Bush has). I have a feeling Obama will ALLOW Hillary only minimal power--and I don't doubt he'll tell Bill to get if he tries to shove his way into things.

On the negative side is the fact of the sizeable number of Clinton rabidites, who probably DO need to be mollified. I think Obama can win on his own, I think he couldn't FAIL to win if Hillary was on the ticket and supporting him ENTHUSIASTICALLY (but, probably like many, I do have some doubts she could/would DO that). It's a place for Hillary to exist for her supporters, and not exist for her detractors.

Also, pressure is already on (by Hillary and others ALREADY bringing the topic up). If Obama doesn't relent, he may be subject to a slightly nasty backlash (except, perhaps, if he chose a DIFFERENT woman for VP)

When I think of hillary as vp I think of Vince Foster.

No matter who is voted in will not make a difference.
