Democratic Unity is an Oxymoron
by quedog

I think something got lost along the way. Is anybody disputing that the Republicans control Florida and that the Republicans changed the date of the primary? Does anybody think that the Republicans care about DNC rules? Does anybody think that changing the date in violation of DNC rules was not part of a well thought Republican strategy of divide and conquer? So why in heavens name did the Democrats give Republicans exactly what they wanted and why would the Clinton campaign throw logs on the fire particularly when it was clear that no matter what the outcome was; it would not help her win the nomination, but more importantly, could potentially fatally damage the Democratic party for years to come? How much sense did it make to inflame democrats to vote against their own interest? How can this bring party unity? Democrats are smarter than this, aren’t they? I realize that those with sufficient power to end the democratic nomination when it was over in February did not out of profound and earned respect to Senator Clinton but the Democratic Party’s interest outweighs the interest of Senator Clinton’s political ambitions. Yesterday’s RBC fiasco was a self inflicted public humiliation of the Democratic Party.

Hillary BECAUSE she is a fighter. They figure this nation would be better off with a tough, smart, tenacious democrat fighter. Obamacrats, on the other hand, like Obama because he is a smarmy little weasel. Both types of politicians do what they do best. Why are you so surprised.

Oh . . . right . . . you are a head in the clouds, gormless, Obamacrat. The rest is history.

Obama handled Clinton with kid gloves, stand back as he takes them off for McCain. If you think Obama is a light-weight, and doesn't know how to play this political game, just take a seat and watch the show.
Oh please, every time Hillary even

looked like she might get tough with Obama the national press and Obamacrats and the DNC went into utter hysterics [race baiter! Racist! Assassination advocate!]. Obama was literally carried in this campaign by the national press and so all he HAD to do was smile and give meaningless speeches.

I KNOW that you are a mindless Obamacrat but you are not going to be allowed to rewrite history without a fight. Between the press and the DNC Hillary has had her hands tied this entire nomination fight. She wasn't allowed to actually do battle against Obama and everyone NOT blinded by Obama worship knows this as a fact.

@ Gatewood:

"Oh . . . right . . . you are a head in the clouds, gormless, Obamacrat."

"...you are a head in the clouds..." Hmm... how to parse this morsel of a Gatewood sandwich? Should it be parsed like "Obama is a head in the delegate count."?

Obama/Clinton 08!

Gatewood

I agreed with you until your unflattering description of me and your assumption about my political preference.

Please don’t assume that I am a blind supporter of Senator Obama simply because I have accepted the reality of the primary. Please believe that I am not being condescending when stating that I like Senator Clinton as well and I agree that Senator Clinton is a fighter which I admire. Senator Clinton fought hard to be the democratic nominee. But that wasn’t the point of my post which was twofold.

First, I love a good fight and I have been in more than my share of fights in my life time. I won some and lost some and I don’t have a problem scuffing up my knuckles again if it is a means to an end. So I can confidently state that fighting for the sake of fighting makes no sense particularly when it works against your own professed cause, a democratic president.

Secondly, if you are a democrat, don’t you think that your political opponents are enjoying every minute of this disunity? How else can a democrat seriously consider voting for the continuation of the war, healthcare for the privileged, more foreclosures, etc?

Democrats can go on and on about what could have or should have happened but nobody change the past. If you like fighters here’s some good news; there is still a fight to be won in November.

Gatewood, that is the biggest load of crap I have heard come out of your mouth to date! Starting with the circulated photo of him in African garb, to her "kitchen sink" strategy, she threw everything she had at him...and you know it. Geez, you have turned into just one more Clinton cry-baby.

explaining reality to the inherently or determinedly irrational and so I won't even try.

Hillary barely moved off a dead standstill where Obama was concerned and all your rationalized hysterics to the contrary, history will eventually prove that to be the truth.

But, Obamacrat hysteric; it . . . does . . . not . . . matter . . . anymore. Obama is being given the nomination by the DNC and so its all over but for the official anointing of Obama. Hillary had this race stolen from her by a biased press and corrupt DNC and that's precisely how history will portray it.

You wanted Obama. You have got Obama. Now the real fun begins as the GOP unlimbers on him. Unlike Hillary they won't go easy on Slick 'Bama.

If I unfairly slammed you then I apologize.

Actually yes

It was a Democrat that introduced the legislation in the Florida legislature and I believe that a majority of the Democrats in the legislature supported it.

Still, I was shocked when the DNC announced (in December?) that they would impose a 100% penalty. In hindsight, things might have gone a bit smoother if they had done what the Republicans did and imposed a 50% penalty.

Re: Actually yes

The DNC announced the penalty in August of 2007, giving each state ample time to change tactics and plans. Michigan dismissed any attempt to change their date and knew they were going against the rules. They wanted it that way. Florida on the other hand, not just a majority of Democrats voted for it, all but one voted for the approval and again, no attempts to change the dates were made with Florida also deciding to play chicken.

Four months. A compromise. As for Hillary Clinton having the election stolen out from under her, (not aimed at you gone_fishing) you can't have stolen what is given of free will. Clinton did not start questioning MI and FL status until the 25th of January, the eve of her big lose in South Carolina and what signaled the miscues of the Clinton campaign in going after a Republican voting block while hoping that the rest of the Democratic party would follow.

It didn't and Clinton's power has been in sectors that no Democratic has ever taken in the general election. Clinton is hoping that her votes in primaries will transfer over into the general election but they will not and she will get about the same numbers that her husband received 16 and 12 years ago. But she will not have a Ross Perot to pull votes away from McCain. Plus McCain is going to take back a lot of the Clinton Republicans that voted for HRC in the primaries, no matter who is the candidate.

So, again. It's getting really old, the same old sad rant and you holding your sign screaming "the end of the world is near and I told you so." What are you going to do about it except repeat yourself?

Gone fishing, you know that time period was attached to a bill to put paper receipts and no Dem could have vote against it.

Why do you not stick to the truth when posting? Why shade what you say and then go into the,but they should not have bit?

There were several other states that moved their primaries up,including Iowa. All those states benefited Obama and the dnc ALLOWED THEM TO GO ON.

I put the dnc in small letters because that is what I think of them, under Dean.

The Democratic Leadership in Florida was 100% behind moving the Primary for 2008.

At the time of the vote in the Legislature Hillary was a lock. The primary was "meaningless" and this would be a "penalty-free" chance to move our primary up for the future.

The big campaign that the leadership ran among Democratic voters was just EXACTLY this.

We got emails and letters and phone calls saying -- "Don't worry, This is the Primary to make the move because it will all be done by Super Tuesday. Trust us. We know that Hillary will be the nominee and then we will have a chance in the future to be one of the first and most meaningful primaries."

Everything the Democratic pols from Florida have said since February 2008 has been one lying backtrack after another.
