We now know the real obama.
by Irish Edwards

Okay, Obama just denounced his church of twenty years after saying to do so would be like denouncing his grandmother. Oh well, the church, the pastor and the grandmother he just threw under the bus.

Obama do you really want us to believe you did not know the Hate, racist and sexist vemon being spewed out by this church and its pastors and its followers. We are not that gullible, you knew exactly what they were about, your denial comes to further your political agenda.

YOU WILL NOT WIN THE GENERAL ELECTION - GO BACK TO CHICAGO, THEY LIKE YOU THERE.

I agree that Obama can't possibly sit in this church for 20 years and not know what they are all about.

Possibly the only reason that he is denouncing them now is that they are throwing him under the bus.

A big question is why do these people NOT want him to be president??? Its pretty obvious that they are delibertly trying to tank him. What do they know about him that we don't??

You think Bush didn't know his church denounced the Iraq war and asked him not to do it?

mark14 is there some relevents to your statement?
Re: We now know the real obama.

Yep. It was in reply to the statment "Obama can't possibly sit in this church for 20 years and not know what they are all about." Bush's church is a peaceful Christian church and he is a war mongering ass (probably you are too) but no one pointed out the inconsistencies of his public stance and what his miinisters were preaching. Do you understand now or should I explain it to you again?

Why should I (or anyone else) give a daman what his church and/or pastor think and how he does or doesn't react to it?

I thought we'd gotten over the "religion thing" with JFK. I'm kind of surprised that know one asked, "How many first ladies will we have if Mitt Romney is elected"? Maybe they would have had he gone further.

Wow, that's a real stretch even for one who belongs to the intelligent elite.

You mean the "Christian Wrong", don't you?

I think their influence was a lot broader than one church on the south side of Chicago and its pastor.

And, I didn't hear any outrage comparable to that directed at Rev Wright when Mullah Falwell announced that 9/11 was God's retribution for the U.S. condoning homosexual life styles or Rev Hagee announced that Katrina was God expresses his displeasure to a planned Gay Pride Parade in NO or Imam Robertson suggesting that the head of a sovereign nation should be marked for assassination.

Pretty outrageous stuff, good thing we don't have another candidate that has attended a hate filled church for 20 + years. One’s more than enough.

Have a good posting day.

RIP

It is important to note that Obama did not "denounce" or "reject" TUCC. In the video of his statement, he gives two specific reasons why he is leaving the church: (1) because he does not want to have every statement made by anyone at all connected or even unconnected with the church to be attributed to him, and (2) he does not want to increase the disruption to the church and its congregation, caused by the intense media attention amounting to harassment of the church and its attendees. In his statement, he spent more time on this point than the first one. Don't forget that, in addition to having media personnel camped out in the church and intruding into the personal lives of its members, the church has also received several bomb threats, as well as death threats to Rev. Wright.

In answering the reporters' questions, Obama explicitly said that he was not either "denouncing" or "rejecting" his church, and that he is not interested in people who want him to do so. In his statement, he also spoke of his continuing respect for both the church and Rev. Wright for the many good works that both have done in the past and continue to do.

Both of his reasons appear valid and compelling to me, and do not fit the definition of political expediency.

The weird thing about his whole Father Flaigler incident is that many people who denounced him on TV and radio seemed to not realize that

1) he is not a pastor at Trinity Church

2) Fr. Flaigler is a white, Roman Catholic priest.

3) he was NOT preaching at a pulpit but rather speaking at a national, interdenominational meeting on race relations.

However, I can't stand it when Religious leaders--Right or Left-- use their position to influence the voting of their church members.

Too me, religion is the fly in every ointment and I'm glad that Obama is separating himself from it. He probably should have done it a long time ago but being religious is expected of candidates now.

"It is important to note that Obama did not "denounce" or "reject" TUCC."

Precisely. Your post suggests that he shouldn't have. It also suggests that he tempered his words so as to not slight the congregation and/or the 'good works' those members may have done in concert with the church's leadership.

All of which is BULLSHIT!

One does not bear in mind the good that ppl do in the course of their lives or careers when we mean to decry the bad that they do. We did not do it at Nuremburg or any other venue where such an issue might arise. Those who do bad are held accountable regardless of what they may have done that is good.

He is giving the members of the church a mulligan. Everyone of those reprobates is hiding behind their "churchiness" as tho that excuse immunizes them against criticism and outrage. They are akin to the citizenry of WWII Germany who did nothing while the Holocaust occurred, even tho they knew Jews had been rounded up and incarcerated in the camps. We did not give the Germans a pass on their convenient ignorance. Why should we do less with these church cretins?

Obama finked out with this pathetically lame explanation, showing that he really is at one with the church even now. He sat on his black ass for 20 years and listened to the venom and the hatemongering and did nothing. Even Oprah abandoned Rev. Wright after a while; Obama and his wife Omachellarosa stayed. And now, cuz the public eye is upon him, he decides to part ways with TUCC.

Go ahead, elect this alienating fraud, you imbeciles. You will deserve both him and the hailstorm that will follow.

Are you comparing the congregation of the Trinity church to Good Germans who sat by while Hitler and his henchmen committed crimes?

WTF. I'm not at all religious, but I don't understand what hate crimes the Pastors of Trinity church perpetrated? If you read Wright's sermons and other preachers from Trinity, they are not criminals. They do support black empowerment, but I don't believe they encourage violence.
