Hillary and History
by Richmond

Laugh all you want. She's up there with Eleanor Roosevelt and Amelia Earhart now.

They'll be naming airports and post offices and college scholarships for her soon.

Name another woman in the last 75 years who's done half as much for American women--and, therefore, for America.

Go on.

Take your time.

Here's a few that come to mind: Gloria Steinem, Sandra Day O'Connor, Diane Feinstein and Oprah.

Ruth Bader Ginsberg.

Nancy Pelosi.

Um, tell me what Hillary Clinton has done for women as a two term Senator and former first lady, that members of congress and senate, in the same party, have not also done? Elizabeth Dole also ran for President.

Ummm ... no.

At this point in her career, the only thing we could really name after Hillary Clinton would be a consolation prize for unsuccessful semi-finalists. It's unfair to say that 'the winners write the history books' - many great Americans have made lasting contributions to society despite never having attained their most lofty goals. Clinton, however, hasn't.

What has she actually done? Outside of her undistinguished career in the Senate and not winning the Democratic nomination?

I've deleted and modified my reply since apparently some folks don't feel that she is.

I think she is. She's the first serious woman to contend for President. The only former First Lady of which I am aware to have held nationally elected office, a senate seat at that. And she may even go on to hold a governorship. She's a formidable figure and example to women and she had all of my respect before this campaign. She's lost a lot of that respect during this campaign but I would hardly expect anyone to deny her historical significance.

Harriet Beecher Stowe

Elizabeth Cady Stanton

Susan B. Anthony

Harriet Tubman

Marie Curie

Helen Keller

Mother Teresa

Sandra Day O’Connor

Rosa Parks

Indira Ghandi

Golda Meir

If you were to rank them....I think these would be above HRC. But she would probably be in the American Top 40, or at least the top 100

Obama 08

Monica Lewinsky

Gennifer Flowers

Paula Jones

Lassie

Re: Hillary and History
by entj4sure

you are kidding right? Womens rights were fought for during the 1800s and early 1900 hundreds. Clinton can thank the likes of Susan B. Anthony for the successes she has had.

You are comparing her with Eleanor Roosevelt? While Clinton was first lady she failed the one responsibility she was given...Universal Health Care.

Amelia Earhart? Damn, who knew that not only did Clinton duck sniper fire in Bosnia, she flew the damn plane into it too!

Clinton has done nothing to add her name to the history books your grandchildren will read...at least not yet.

Now now, Bill didn't do Lassie. Lassie was actually a male dog and Bill isn't gay as far as I know. But as Seinfeld said "not that there is anything wrong with that".
Re: Hillary and History

Lucy Ball

Carol Burnett

Mary Tyler Moore

At least these women made you want to turn on the TV

This flawed candidate makes all of us sick

Hillary's political career isn't over. If she plays her cards right, she can leave an impressive legacy. She ran an impressive (if sometimes nasty) campaign for the Democratic Presidential nomination and she came close to winning. That, in itself, is historic. I hope that she has better days ahead of her.

She ran an impressive campaign?

She was the front runner from the start with the biggest machine, the most money, and the biggest fundraiser (Bill) in the Democratic party. She blew it. There was nothing about her campaign that was impressive. Her tenure in New York, a state in which she never resided until she came to represent it in the Senate, was a gift of the Democratic party who gave her a position in one of its strongholds as a favor to her husband. She used her tenure on the ethics committe to wipe out every other Democratic fundraiser but her husband or people tied with her (Toricelli is a good example) in preparation for her run. All the bills passed in her tenure in New York have been authored by senior party memebers, not her. She hasn't done anything except scheme poorly.
