Verb tense?

Obama doesn't know what he's talking about on Iraq...we've lowered troop levels to pre-surge numbers.

Um, no, Senator, we haven't done that yet. We're still about 25,000 troops above pre-surge levels.

Stop nitpicking verb tense! I wasn't lying or wrong, I just used the wrong verb tense!

Nitpicking verb tense? Are you effing kidding me? That's really a good one.

Hey, Senator Straight-Talk, why not just say we've withdrawn ALL our troops from Iraq. I mean, it's only verb tense. We intend to withdraw those troops, so saying we've already done it isn't really a lie and evidently isn't even a mistake. Hell, we've also erased the National Debt, landed men on Mars, gotten ourselves off the tit of foreign oil, and defeated disease and hunger throughout the world. I mean, I'm not lying when I say that, I'm just using the incorrect verb tense.

Lono:

I heard the argument this morning on NPR, while on the way to an interview. As it was stated by the pro-McCain party, he was tired from too much travel, too busy a schedule, etc. and as a result we need to cut the candidates some slack? Because of this, they are prone to make mistakes.

God-forbid if he takes that theorectical 3 AM call from his wife and mistakeningly calls in a nuke strike on her person because she woke him up. Sorry hun, I was tired!!!

Re: It's actually brilliant

I'm shocked Bush/Cheney didn't come up with it years ago.

"Of course I'm not lying...I was talking about what I intend to do, not what I've already done. The fact that I phrased it in the past tense is really irrelevant. I mean, would I try to mislead you people like that?"

And you're right about the "tired" stuff. Shit, he's not even really campaigning right now. He's had the nomination locked up for months, the Dems are too busy fighting amongst themselves to really go after him, and he just came off a long vacation weekend at his spread in beautiful, tranquil Sedona. He's about as rested and relaxed as he could possibly be.

Now wait a minute

when's the last time you were up in Sedona? I took my mother up there a couple weeks ago and I got tired just looking for a place to park. It used to be such a nice little town.

Sedona is still one of the most beautiful places on the planet, imo.

I should be there in July dressed in a foil suit to protect me from the sun

Oh, Sedona ain't so bad
by ducadmo

not even in the summer. Actually, July isn't that bad once you've been here for a while. It's that fucking August with it's monsoons that gets to ya. It rains buckets when it's a hundred and fifteen. It's not like the water is going to help anything - except for the saguaro, jumpin' cholla, and the golfers, everything else that tried living outdoors in the daylight is already dead.

But Sedona is up in the high country. If you've never been there, you should take the time. Red rocks at sunset. It's a reason to be alive.

Gonna . . .

4th and all plus a few days. Gonna see the canyon also.
Grand Canyon
by ducadmo

If you ain't seen it , do so. There's a movie about that. See it, too. I forgot what it's about - except the Grand Canyon. Makes an old man feel young to realize you ain't THAT old.

The Grand Canyon is what made me decide to hang out in Arizona for a while. It was the first place we went after spending a week with my wife's gay friend in Laguna Beach (his boyfriend really did look good dressed like Marilyn Monroe). We slept in the back of the Pathfinder in January on a three dog night with only two dogs, but it was worth it.

There is no way to understand God without standing on the edge of the Grand Canyon. To get the full effect - bring bongo drums. I swear. You won't regret it.

Re: Agreed.

The town's a friggin' nightmare...the surrounding countryside, however, is another story (though that, too, is becoming more and more crowded). Instead of that fence across the southern border, I wonder if we could get somebody to build one along the other three.

And shouldn't somebody be asking John McCain why he hangs out in New Age Hippie Central?

The Canyon. Sunrise or sunset if you can manage it. It's a life-altering experience.

Re: "We have DRAWN down to pre-surge levels"
by DragonTat2

Drawn down. You know, on pieces of paper. That's all he meant.

If folks'd just leave poor old McCain alone he wouldn't be so distracted.

Fat fucking lying bastard. Fucking lying bastard. [no need to get personal]

I like this part:

"If you’re going to start fact-checking verb tenses, we’re going to make sure we start monitoring verb tenses a lot more closely than we have in this campaign," McCain advisor Randy Scheunemann said.

Apparently, this guy thinks nobody has been paying attention to verbs and nouns and stuff. Nor has his speeches been proof-read for facts and other irrelevant stuff.

What a pair of tools.

Thanks.

duc:

It was in the plans. Just about the time my aunt decided to come west again with a plan to take me out to the western states, I disappeared further west across the pond. My understanding of God and the fleeting significance of life became firmly entrenched in my mind. At 19, I was introduced to the reality of it.

The movie Grand Canyon with Glover, Kline, and McDonald had mystical qualities to it and the Grand Canyon placed a part in developing the story and the role people play in each other's lives. As you can tell, I liked the movie and will watch it from time to time. It does present a panoramic view of the canyon. daveto has sent me pictures of it and suggested the same as you.

It is in the plan again, many years later in life, to stand on the edge and look outward across its span. You, my friend, have many wicked stories to tell. Thanks for sharing.

Oh, I am sure it is.

If I had the time and my sons with me, I think a few days hiking in it would be kind of fun. Waiting for my younger son so the three of us can attack the Arkansas again and the Puebloes.
