What Is This Girl Carrying To A Parked Car?
by Seasoldier

These were the days when you could drive your car to a PIG STAND and order a fresh hamburger and beer. Not to many places where you can do that today, but as late as 1999 I faithfully monitored my favorite haunt.

You sure it was just the hamburger you went there for, Sea?? :)

Seasoldier/How about we go DOWNTOWN and get a hamburger and beer, or some barbequed ribs? While we are there we can visit this pretty girl.

I'll drink to that, though I'd prefer "Blue bonnets oe'r the border", now, that's a tune to go into battle with, or, even "Hei'land laddie".

My home town used to have two old-style drive-in restaurants, but it's now down to one:

They don't serve beer, but they have delicious frappes.

is drive-in movies. Somehow we never seemed to watch the movie, however. Ron

Years ago we had the very first pizza shop I can remember. It was in a former diner that was a half round building. Everyone called it the "flying saucer". It has since been replaced by a WaWa.

When I lived in Louisiana, one of the redeeming graces the state had was a preponderance of drive-through daiquiri joints. You can get 'em in 32oz cups for $6.00, 2 for 1 on wednesdays.

Spend all day on the Gulf fishing, come in and grab a few quarts of daiquiri, fire up the grill and sit on the porch all evening... Not a bad life!

We used to stay awake in our fighting holes at night and whisper stories one to the other to shed the boredom, especially when it was raining and muddy as hell. My favorite stories revolved around the "HiDeHo's" and other drive-in joints. Gas was .19 cents a gallon, just about what it is now in Chavez land, and we drove our souped up cars from one side of town to the other sometimes just guys, and other times those Texas beauties. Can't do that anymore, can we?

Thanks for the links.

Seasoldier/I always thought it strange that one could drive in to a DRIVE-IN RESTAURANT and order BEER with your food. You could do that in some of the best duty stations like MEMPHIS at "Kay's" right before you cross the bridge to West Memphis, Arkansas, and CORPUS CHRISTI, another find hot place to get a beer. All of these fine locations I recall with fund memories. In WISCONSIN, the drinking age for BEER was eighteen, which I thought only right since boys could fight and die at that age but have always been considered irresponsible to drink at that same age. I'm sure there were many more places like these that I never got to see.

I remember the night someone was knocking on my '61 Bontiville Convertible window glass. From that time another favorite song caused me to wander off mysteriously at times.
