your article really hit home
by slaya4eva

Everything you wrote about this song - especially when comparing it to that catchy song from last year about "talking all night" - really struck a chord. As I approach 30 next month, more and more I find myself contemplating where I fit into society's view of "youth" and if I'll still be able to revel in the unsustainable perfectness of some moments now that I know they are just that - unsustainable. (I learned this all too quickly once I took ecstasy a few times).

Anyway, thanks for a great article.

I just hit 40 this year and the sad truth is that the older you get, the harder it is to know what you can do beyond the easy answers-family and marriage. I have kids and manage to do the dad thing, but keep in mind that I was in a rock and roll band for over a decade and its hard to live that and then be just another face at the donut shop.....

No matter how much you love your family....and I do love them.....you do miss the partying and the music and the craziness a lot.....and when you're 40 there just isnt anyone who wants to do that with you--the older people (including the ones you used to party with) are too busy or too fearful of having a good time-the younger people think you're creepy for wanting to party with them (just try walking into a normal dance club at 40 and you wont believe the looks you get).

Personally I have assembled a small rock band and we rent a room in the city and jam once or twice a week.....I live for it. I feel 20 years younger.....but I doubt there is a future in it-I call it my therapy....Like Peter Pan I dont want to "grow up" if it means all I get to do is work and sleep.

Maybe I'm bitter or have bad perspective, but people seem to expect you to "grow up", but nobody really seems to enjoy it. Unfortunately it's hard to know what to do with yourself and so many older people seem to quit trying and then look at you funny because you don't do the same.

It's a cliche, but it still happens, we've all known guys who've got married and quit the band, sold the motorcycle.
