5 Stages of Grief and the Clinton Campaign
by Merlie
I think Matt Dowd had it right (on This Week). I expect Clinton is experiencing the 5 stages of grief. I think that is why she seems to jump back and forth and do and say crazy things for someone so experienced. I'm not a Hilary supporter, but I think we can all cut her a little slack. It must be agonizing to see a dream that you have held for so long die. To go from expecting to be the next President of the US to realizing it isn't going to happen is a huge emotional curve. I think she's in the anger phase (it's sexism, the media, Obama's fault) and will soon glide right into the bargaining phase.

Hillary Clinton is certainly not the first candidate to "see a dream that [she has] held for so long die." (Besides, I think this woman has been thinking ahead to 2012 and/or 2016 for some time.) The way candidates deal with disappointment is a measure of character and the narcissism, half-truths, race baiting and coy remarks such as "If he says he's not Muslim I take him at his word" have been very defining for HRC. I think she's been cut a lot of slack for too long.
The interesting thing...

For so long we heard "nominate Hillary because Obama can't survive a tough fight". To that I always said "Show me. If Obama can't survive a tough fight, give him one."

Then it's "She's ready; she won't make stupid mistakes", but she follows that up with a string of blunders.

She's supposed to know what she's doing, but she ran an abysmal campaign.

Hillary and her supporters told me a lot. She had a chance to show me and failed. She was handed the nomination and she dropped it. Life goes on...

Indeed, "nominate Hillary because Obama can't survive a tough fight" would seem like something that can very aptly be turned on Hillary by this point, don't you think?
