Clinton's strategy
by ovation

If Obama defeats McCain, Clinton will not seek the Democratic nomination in 2012 against an incumbent president. She would not have another chance to run for 8 years, by which time it may be too late for her.

If McCain wins the general election, Clinton can run again in 4 years. She could run a very credible "I told you so" campaign, because her assertions that Obama is unelectable will have been proven correct.

Is it not possible that she is staying in the race in order to damage Obama and increase the chances that McCain will win? Actions mentioned in John Dickerson's article, such as going to Florida to tell voters that Obama has disenfranchised them, or telling women voters that she is a victim of a misogynistic campaign, are consistent with this goal.

That Mrs. Clinton is doing whatever she can to increase McCain's chances of winning is not only possible, it is probable.

If Obama is elected, she is done.

She is no quitter, so why would she just throw down her cards and walk away from the game now?

I believe that your assertion here is spot on.

How did the democrats get the media on their (Obama's) side. They love Obama.

The media is big-business owned and operated. And Republican.

They know that a huge split in the Democratic party favoring Obama will automatically spell a HUGE victory in November for John McCain - a Republican.

So the media is more than happy to continue the Obama lovefest just long enough to make him the nominee.

Republicans are gloating.

Because the elitist Democrats' plans are seriously backfiring.

They're witnessing firsthand the self-hanging of the Democratic party.

If Hillary pulls out of this in August, however, then the Republicans will become terrified too.

Because both she and McCain are considered moderates of their parties.

And women will be the key to victory in November for the candidate who favors them.

Obama is a yes man for the left and he will lose big in the general election.

That is why everyone is jumping Hillary's ship to Obama to let him get the nod and lose.

The dems know who could win, but they will not push Hillary around and when she gets the nod in 2012 she will sweep the nation.

All savvy pols keep one eye on the next election. Mrs. Clinton is no different in that regard. However, I don't think the only reason she is staying in the race is to see Obama lose. I do agree that an Obama loss is her only hope of running again in 2012. I also think she has such a sense of entitlement that she actually believes the supers will come over to her side. Anything can be rationalized, and I can see her making the argument that she has won convincingly in what, 5 out of the last 7 primaries? There are probably enough people on her staff, who have nothing else to do after the election, giving her advice to just hang on, she has momentum!

I'm sure that running in 2012 is Plan B (winning this time around is, of course, Plan A).

But everyone has to have a back up plan and she's no exception.
