Jonesy, achilleselbow...thank you, thank you
by Ishqdara

Jonesy: When I'm procrastinating at work... I surf the web. That's about it. It's not like I procrastinate a project I don't like for one I do... I just don't do any work. Surfing the internet is fun, but it's only very occasionally productive.

Jonesy: A lot of procrastinators have a problem whenever a want turns into a should. I surf the net a lot every day, but if it became my job to surf the net I'm pretty sure my attitude toward it would change completely.

Achilleselbow: I don't WANT to spend my whole day reading websites and watching YouTube videos while barely working up the motivation to take a shower. I don't WANT to have to make up work or get incompletes in classes because I didn't write a paper on time. I don't WANT my entire life to go by without having done anything.

Oh, thank you, Jonesy, achilleselbow and others who GOT what Emily Yoffe was talking about. It's as if you stole the words of my heart. I'm at my wit's end about what to do about my chronic and pathological procrastination. I've had to pay a heavy personal and professional price for this trait. In despair, I was recently thinking about seeking the help of the newly opened Hallowell Center in New York City (a very profitable enterprise started by Dr. Edward Halowell, physician and author of "Driven to Distraction." the bestselling tome about adult attention deficit disorder). But when I called the Center, they said their intake interview alone cost $450, and subsequent therapy sessions $225 each (and they don't accept insurance, naturally). Since we chronically procrastinating people don't have lavish enough incomes to afford such treatment, I've had to regretfully forego this option. As an alternative, can't we, the self-destructive procrastinators on the Internet, band together and form kind of a virtual support group, helping each other through our handicap? If anybody would like to get in touch with me about this, my email address is: viravanshi at yahoo dot com. Let's help each other, folks, and help ourselves.
