Surely dobutsu, you have the capacity to understand why the jokes were anything but funny. But, seeing as you are too busy scratching yourself in your trailer park to complete that mental exercise, let me do it for you. The problem is too many people in this country believe that the deplorable crassness in these jokes capture an accurate picture of an entire population in this country. These aren't harmless jokes, but more of the systemic cancer that causes the many instances of racism raising its ugly head.

We can already tell he/she thinks in broad categories and not in any critical way whatsoever. "You liberals" eh? Go find a few black republicans and ask them if they think they are funny.

I have to say I consider myself pretty liberal and yet I found myself chuckling away at some of the emails. I come from a background that is often the butt of similar jokes, and I find that very often people take offence on my behalf. I realise that in recent times, racism has become far more insidious and subtle (though no less offensive and wounding), but I still think that there is a tendency to over react, and that this tendency sometimes has as much to do with showing how non-racist we are, than genuine shock or outrage at the content of the offending material.

I hope all you pansies that were so offended by this don't ever go to a comedy club or turn on the television. You would see far more "offensive" material in either of those mediums (watch mind of mencia or dave chapelle for examples). If you ninnies are really so sensitive then you really need to just stay in the house away from the big hurtful world.

First: Using work email accounts or sharing this kind of crap among your colleagues makes you an idiot. You should be fired for that alone.

Second: The last email in the chain includes a bizarre rant that outs the writer as a wildly uneducated racist. Not to mention mentally unstable (a racist rant in response to a request for an American Idol seat upgrade???) Perhaps it's time the US Government reanalyzes it's personality testing pre-hire.

Lastly: These people are very often paid to protect the very kind of people they seem to have a great deal of contempt for. They should be fired, if for no more reason than their ability to do their job properly is in question. It is unfortunate we can do nothing about their ignorance and hatefulness--that is usually taught at an early age by parents...

The thing is, you can recognize the cleverness of the plays on words while still acknowledging that it is an environment of serious disrespect for blacks that made this kind of joking acceptable in business-day correspondence.

You people who are bitching need to get over it. There was 10 e-mails found after a comprehensive search of more than 20 million electronic documents over a 16-year period. Only 10 found out of 20 million makes the Secret Service racist? I do not believe so. They are reaching just to win a case when there is no racism. Get over it.
