gay marriage: Who gives a F_ _ _ _?
by joe clark

Funny how the gay straight issue that means nothing to a mojority of Americans, comes up like clockwork just about the time we elect a new President?? Coincidence, I don't think so? First, this is a play from the playbook of crap of and by the Republican party. This is how they con the stupid people that lost their homes, their jobs and their minds to REpublican BAD policies. THey play the game EVADE AND DEFLECT getting said moronic voter to focus on issues that absolutely have nothing to do with Quality of life here. It's the old HOMO'S AND EMBRYO'S BATTLE CRY. (Hold flags high at this point in speech?. And you know what, the dumb asses willl go for it. PLEASE DON'T FOCUS ON HEALTHCARE, THE ECONOMY, JOB LOSS, FORECLOSURES, MORTGAGE THEFT, IRAQ because two people I don't know about want to marry and live together? I am religious, married 2 kids and I love my wife. If two people that are not pedophiles like STRAIGHT male priests, STRAIGHT nuns, STRAIGHT crossing guards, STRAIGHT judges, policeofficers, gas attendants ect....want to enter into a marrigae, I say let them lose their minds like us straight folk!

Funny how this had nothing to do with a republican politician this time around and hasn't even been alluded to in the presidential race, yet a familiar comment like this original thinking "comes up like clockwork." No need to wonder what playbook produced this.

Look at the flashy constitutional issue. Oh, look! A tree.

I'd have to agree. Of all the things important enough to worry about, this isn't it.

If you are religious and love your wife as you claim then morality and the kind of society you raise your children in would be more important then the economy etc. What did Jesus tell the young rich ruler when he asked what must he do to get to heaven? Sell all you posess and follow him which he could not do. The bottom line is either we sell all we have emotionally, put his truth before our own put morality in a rational perspective taking into consideration that interpretation of Gods word is vital and live and make others accountable to live morally as well. "What does a man profit if he gains the whole world but loses his soul?"

I for one cannot close my eyes or turn my head to the strategies the enemy (not the republicans) is using to take our children to an eternity in hell.

Republicans, lets be honest, the party is distingushed by "Bait and Switch", running on Mom & Pop social issues, then running Mom & pop down while ramming thru Republican FU bills to enrich themselves. The party of the Lee Atwaters, Karl Roves,

Not that the Democrats are any better. Both represent small very different cliques looking out for themselves mostly. Oh well forty years and maybe Ceasar will be crossing the Rubicon.

Oh, I love "sell all you have emotionally" and go follow Him. So that lets you keep your SUV, your vacation home, your American lifestyle while children are starving around the world. No, friend, Jesus said "sell all you have" and he meant sell your stuff, let go of the material possessions, let go of greed and exploitation and divisions based on wealth. Which is related to gay marriage in that so-called Christians are always ready to condemn others for not following the literal word of the Bible while interpreting that Bible in such a way as to permit their own pet sins. The Jesus I see in the Bible would have a lot less trouble accepting a gay person than accepting someone who professes love of God while clinging to the trappings of the world. First sell all you have, then tell me you're a Christian. That ought to thin out the ranks a bit.

While I think you are on the right track, your theology is a bit flawed. I agree that Jesus would have readily "accepted" gay people, in the sense that he would have shown them love. He would not, however, have accepted their behavior. He would have openly and honestly condemned it as a sin. Your implication that all Christians should sell "all you have" also misinterprets the message. It is not a sin to be rich or possess worldly goods, but it is a sin if the love of these things is stronger than one's love of God. There a many very wealthy, very devout, Christians. But you are correct in that there are no levels of sin. Greed is a sin on the exact same "level" as homosexuality.

The morality and the kind of society where I want to raise my children IS vitally important to me. That is why I oppose immoral and antisocial things, like intolerance towards gay people and inequality before the law and casting sweeping aspersions on people you don't even know: calling their actions and "lifestyle" immoral simply because you BELIEVE the action is immoral, even though there is no other justification for such a judgment.

The kind of world I want my children growing up in is one where they are free to believe what they want - even if it's (ewww) Christianity. It's one where if they are gay, they can look forward to the same liberties straight people enjoy - the freedom to, if they choose, pick a partner and settle down and raise a family without being penalized at every turn for being gay.

And the kind of world I want my children growing up in has substantially less incoherent religious ranting by nutjobs who think their belief trumps other people's beliefs!
