How very telling. The Prez, speaking to the Knesset, talked about the foolish delusion of those who would talk dedicated terrorists out of their avowed aims. Just as some tried to talk the Nazis out of their avowed aims, claimed success, and then looked like a bunch of damned fools.

No names were mentioned in current times. The Israeli Parliament gave the remark vigorous applause. Just the sort of thing for America to say in support of Israel. Thank you, Mr American President.

Suddenly, the Obama camp was infuriated. "How dare he talk about me that way!" Well, he didn't mention you. "Yeah, but but, you know who he meant! Somebody has to apologize! Someone must resign!"

If the shoe fits, leap forward to try it on, apparently.

After all, she clobbered the Nominee Presumptive by 41 points on Tuesday. Can't get more repudiatory. Yet, the Obama Media Coalition (OMC) managed to squish that by bringing out the Edwards Endorsement.

John Edwards, who has won a single race in his entire life. Has 18 delegates in this race. That trumps a total ass-reaming of the Nominee Presumptive, apparently.

I firmly expect the Kentucky Vaporization to be countered by the all-important Biden Endorsement.

"Some" could be anybody. Maybe somebody in the United Nations. Obama bit. Learning experience.

If it has any intent other than an innocent, "Hey, Give It Up For Tiny Israel" (and there's not a doubt in my mind that it does), it's more likely part of the ramp up to attacking Iran this fall.

No, that isn't the kind of rhetoric that should come from the lips of the President of the United States. We are not Israel's goon squad. Israel has no choice - none whatsoever - but to learn to get along with the Palestinian people who surround them. They have not made much progress in their sixty years as a nation, but the past eight years have been particularly devoid of progress. Can't imagine why that would be. Maybe you can guess.

There is absolutely zero will in the Bush White House to take any action against Iran. Easy as it would be, and thoroughly provoked as it is (not WMD stuff, outright acts of war). This pisses many of us me off.

Obviously, the overt intent was to give a pat on the back to Israel, and to assure them that we will back them all the way.

But, there was a dig at a number of Dems, most prominently Obama. This isn't Lil' Bush; he knows the political landscape. It may have been an attempt to draw Obama out. Certainly it was a play for Florida. And McCain jumped right on it. Obama, endorsed by Hamas, etc.

All's fair, and he was endorsed by Hamas, just like he was endorsed by Farrakhan. Doesn't agree with them, but it's embarrassing. So why draw attention to it?

See how it plays, but my assessment is that it doesn't play to Obama's strengths.

You are correct, Duc....the Israelis' diplomatic record is almost as bad as was Poland's record in dealing with Hitler. I guess the Poles just were not interested in achieving a lasting peace.

Given their situation, I'd say Israel has a brilliant diplomatic record. Every neighbor has been clamoring to annihilate them since their foundation, they have a completely indefensible border, and yet they survive.

While their opponents fume in futility.

You play the hand you're dealt. And they play it very well indeed.

My biggest bitch against Bush, after all those illegals, is his refusal to blow the hell out of Iran. What dumb sob fights a war in a country and lets a neighboring country have free access to send weapons and fighters to attack and kill his troops?

If Bush was right in the head, he would have stopped it by now. It's an outrage to send troops into harm's way and not do everything possible to protect them.

As for the appeasement statement...of course he was talking about Obama, what other asshole could he have meant? Obie says he's going to sit down and talk to Ahmadinejad. He should challenge him to a basketball game....wouldn't that be special. What an idiot.

I could see Obama totally schooling Dinner Jacket at hoops. The man is barely five feet. But would they abide by the result?

The thing is, the Navy (especially) and Air Force aren't that tied down in Iraq. Ground forces are stretched. But there are so many credible threats we have hanging over Iran, if we were only to make them seriously. Instead of futzing around and letting them use Iraq as a proxy battlefield.

Exactly....that's why we have cruise missiles.

when I wholeheartedly agreed with that sentiment. It was indeed a hostile environment and it was in the interest of the United States to ensure Israel's security and assist it economically. Those days are falling behind us.

Primarily due to the efforts of the international community - not least of which was the efforts of past Presidents of this nation - Israel has some form of negotiated settlement with most of its neighbors. Nonetheless, we still annually dump $3,000,000,000 worth of foreign aid into that nation (more than any other) and it has become - like all other forms of welfare that chafes you guys' butts - remarkably counter-productive.

I agree that Israel had a difficult time for the first thiry years, but that was thirty years ago. Their only task now is to resolve their differences with the people who have been displaced in the decades of dispute. They seem perfectly unable to do so and in the process, have made it very difficult for people who cherish human rights to be consistently supportive of their cause. There is no such thing as unwaivering support. There is no such thing as eternal friendship. Not in international politics.

to resolve their differences. Every time they make a serious attempt to resolve their differences, we demand a cease-fire.

So the whole thing drags on long past a rational resolution. A bunch of proxy fighters, restrained for a couple of weeks by resolutions, re-arming child suicide bombers to stroll into to shopping malls.

If we had actually allowed them to resolve their differences, this would've long been settled. With far fewer lives lost.
