Why have any laws?

Presidential candidate and one-time attorney Fred Thompson feels that since it couldn't be proven that Libby was the person who initially leaked Plame's name, he shouldn't have been prosecuted for obstructing justice. So what Thompson seems to be saying is that it is acceptable for administration officials (or people who work for the vice president) to lie to federal investigators. Witnesses have no legal obligation to tell the truth is what the presidential wannabe is saying. If witnesses are aloud to lie without consequences, then the only people who can be convicted beyond reasonable doubt are those who plead guilty, as defendants will be allowed to introduce all kinds of witnesses who are allowed to lie with impunity. so why bother with perjury laws in the first place? And where is Thompson's (and all the others who take his stand) outrage over the treasonous act?

I know Bush has set the bar low for the presidency (please, no posts about clinton lying about sex, it's not the same as betraying your country), but thompson isn't supposed to be as stupid as bush.

And I still don't understand why Novak was not punished for outing Plame. That is not a freedom of the press issue, there wasn't a need for the public to know.

We have laws for those

who have no ethics, no values, no self discipline and no respect for others.

Clearly Thompson fits into one of those categories.

OK, I see.

It's OK to obstruct justice if you are covering up for another crook, and not yourself. And if you are a connected Republican.

If you are guilty, as Bush confirmed when he praised the jury system, it makes no difference. If you are a FOB (friend of Bush) you walk.
