I was struck by the wording in the opinion how graceful the language was and how carefully and succinctly the court described the irrational biases and stereotypical treatement of people based on sexual orientation. And how often it has absolutely nothing to do with the level of job performance or contribution to society.

TruettCollins, I would love to know exactly how many of "GOD's teachings" you follow in your daily life. Do you eat shrimp or shellfish? Do you cut your forelocks? Do you conduct business on the sabath (Saturday)? Do you associate with your wife during her cycle? Do you sleep with your slaves (Ok) but not with your father's wives (not ok)? There are many teachings in the Bible that I'm sure you don't follow and probably are not even aware of yet you focus on homosexuality....why?

Very few people have gotten a legitimately Christian divorce. So by Old Testament rules adulterers (those in second and third marriages) are like gays and subject to stoning to death. Lucky for you (or your friends) that Christ kind of got us over that. Look it up.

Yes, they are still sins. You should hate all the sins equally. That said I'm against gay marriage for religious, legal, logical, and secular reasons.

But in the end YOU just come off as homophobic or a hater. Why aren't you an adulterator hater and support laws that divorced people CAN'T get re-married unless they can prove their Christian divorce? You have no argruments and no thought process. Hey Spiker, We're in agreement on TruettCollins, I think. But I'm a little surprised to see you dismissing the Old Testament, and calling the New Testament "the Christian part".

Anti-gay rights folks routinely use the Old Testament as proof that homosexuality is a sin (generally quoting from Leviticus) so why can't pro-gay rights folks point out the absurdity of people who foam at the mouth about gays while chowing down on shellfish? And pork for that matter?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Jesus never said, "Ignore everything in all those other books." It's not really fair for the Old Testament to "count" on the side of the religious right, but not be fair game to show their hypocrisy.

In the New Testament Paul exempts gentiles from circumcision and Jewish dietary laws, big, big issues in their day. You can take Paul as authoritative or not. I do.

As a matter of fact Jesus did say the Old Testament was binding. I take it to be binding were the New Testament does not explicitly or implicitly override the Old. :0)
