Were the Dove Ads Retouched?
by Texwiz

Interesting article about detecting photoshop work.

But the answer to the question is, it doesn't matter. Either the photos were retouched, or the photos were of some extraordinarily perfect chubby women.

Either way, the ads were manipulative. Most "real" women, by which, I assume they mean, "women who are over size 8 and not 19 years old anymore" generally do not look like that.

They generally (no, certainly not always, but generally) have wrinkles, cellulite, less than perfectly smooth and unblemished skin.

This is not a slam of women, hefty, old or otherwise. Personally, I've got a few pounds of less than attractive baggage, and furthermore, I like the way real women look. They're not all fashion models, and dammit, they're not supposed to be. Real women can have some cellulite, etc and still be beautiful, sexy and exciting.

The ads just show some women who are a bit bigger than the typical models, but reinforce the same (for most people) unattainable standards of physical beauty as any issue of Vogue or Cosmo.

Hypocrisy of the highest order.
