Challenge to any poster
by Smiley1979

Real simple:

Tell me honestly that if the US was being occupied by a foreign government, any of you wouldn't either actively take up arms against them or support those who did.

Tell me honestly why anyone should answer a question like that?

Iraq needs us to leave, but not right now. "Occupier" is not a real aim of the American public. We can't get out without Iraq's neighbors coming in and getting into the mess unless Iraq fixes its government and pulls together. They aren't doing it and we can't really do it for them. If they were to pull together a Constitution that would actually work for all of them and become one country and get their act together, we could leave.

"If they were to pull together a Constitution that would actually work for all of them and become one country and get their act together, we could leave."

The Bush/McCain plan, magical thinking at its best. I prefer Biden's partition plan. It looks more like what already exists on the ground and allows us to stop funding and arming the people who are killing us.

Is the "occupying" country a Democracy?
by JorgeMandate

... governed by the rule of law, democratic institutions, and with a long history of fighting for freedom and defeating tyranical despots?

If yes, then obviously they have invaded us for good reason, since democracies rarely attack other democracies; everything must have drastically changed in America. Probably the second year of the Obama/Chavez Cultural Revolution. And my guess is that bodies are piling up in the streets.

In that case, I for one, will welcome our new democratic overlords. And fight by their side to restore America to its former greatness.

any other stupid questions?

"And fight by their side to restore America to its former greatness."

That's funny, man-dater. Instead, I exepct you to volunteer to be a hospitality girl in the occupiers' barracks.

oh, don't get mad

I'm sure Chavez will find a spot for you in his "Diaper Brigade".

I might. But to be fair, that might depend on a few things like.....

how free I was under the the occupied government as compared to before the occupation.

how many of my friends and family members were killed by the former government (and to be sure, how many were killed by the occupiers and also other factions)

which side I favored in the civil war that is already under way.

how I judged my prospects for the future. And the prospects of my country.

I don't think this question is all that interesting. A far more interesting question, one that is more relevent to our current times, is this one:

At what point would you be willing to take up arms against your own government?

The Trans-Texas Corridor is a small obsession of mine lately. It's such a massive project, covering so many square miles, that thousands of people will be directly affected, thousands of homes and private property will be confiscated. A friend of mine attended a hearing about it in my hometown, and these arrogant jerks from Austin kept referring to all this "undeveloped land" that will be used for the project. What they call "undeveloped," a lot of folks call "farms" and "ranches." There were people at that meeting literally crying their eyes out, old men reduced to tears.

I've been thinking a lot about this. Our forebears would have fought for what was theirs; have we become so submissive that we're willing to step aside while the bulldozers come through?

I guess maybe I'm being a little dramatic, but this is a serious deal. It's not just a small development or a new Wal-Mart we're talking about here. This thing is massive. At what point would you say the government has crossed the line? At what point do we actually grab the guns and start digging foxholes? We Texans romanticize our own history to ridiculous levels; are we willing to match the heroism we celebrate in guys like Sam Houston and William B. Travis? Or are we just a lot of talk?

Well Anse, you can thank your liberal Supreme Court justices for helping to railroad these people in their farms and ranches. The Kelo decision will allow these developers to draw that highway as they please, and governments along the way can force those people out of their homes and ranches.

That said, your point is a separate matter. I'm not necessarily opposed to this highway. Depends on the ramifications. Honestly, I haven't looked into the matter enough to take an informed position. However, it definitely seems serious enough to get informed. So in that respect, you're one up on me. I gotta fly, have a nice day.

Stan, of course you would immediately politicize this horseshit, blaming liberals for it...never mind that this project is Rick Perry's all the way.

You guys are real doofuses, man. Seriously.

I'm opposed to it. We don't need new highways. You could make a case for turning State Hwy 59 into an interstate; that's been in the works for years now. And I can see a need for passenger rail, possibly. But this project is too big, and it's unnecessary.

Once gas hits $4, $5, $6 a gallon, you're going to see less need for it. Besides, new highways just lead to expanded development, which in turn requires new highway expansion. It's a never-ending game. And once you get out of Houston or any of the other major cities, I don't see so much traffic on the highways that one would think new ones are necessary.

Depends.....

If they are here to overthrow a tyrant and help give me freedoms, I would take up arms with the foreign government. If they are here to take away my freedoms I would take up arms against the foreign government.

Sorry... but the one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter strawman is an old one

Besides, you and your ilk (Sheehan etc) have already indicated our troops are Nazi's and the insurgent terrorists (including foreigners) are freedom fighters

Good luck... (looks like you need to add some straw and a definitely a brain to your strawman)

Enjoy

;o)

Well that all depends.....

If it were the Chinese, trying a hostile take over of the West Coast, count me in, I'll bring the gun...

If, however, it was someone like Great Britain temporarily occupying an area after a great disaster or something, tying to actually help us...I'll bring 'em some moonshine!
