We've seen this movie before
by mikestand

Candidate A is "widely expected" to win an upcoming primary. The MSM reports this, political junkies discount it when they stick their pins in their electoral maps. All agree that it "will not affect the fundamentals".

Then Candidate A actually does win. Eureka! A game changer!! Candidate A now has "momentum" and Candidate B "can't close the deal". The race somehow looks different.

Watch for last week's Obama Inevitability to be called into question - Can She Still Win? - based on losing two primaries everybody already knows he'll lose.

Granted we have seen this a number of times (and it's been annoying every time), but I think it's possible this time won't be as bad.

Obama has intentionally barely campaigned in WV & Kentucky, and has publicly and repeatedly stated that Clinton's going to win both those states by substantial margins. As a result, I think it's become accepted that Clinton's going to win by 30-40%.

And by not having campaigned very heavily, the Clinton camp can't make their usual argument of "he tried really hard and still lost".

Finally, I think the MSM has finally cottoned on to the fact that there just aren't that many uncommitted delegate votes left and that the steady stream of superdelegates over the last week has already negated any gain from WV & Kentucky.

... which of course means I've set myself up to have another angry night in front of the TV as they proceed to act exactly as you describe.

The media is, as usual, making a story where none exists. The Democratic primaries shouldn't even be front-page news anymore, but the media have many hours of airtime to fill, and they have to talk about something.
