Here is my 18 cents. This country was built on a racial divide, so it continues to nurse this wound but "We The People" fail to take the real medicine and allow this wound to heal correctly. To my White American brothers and sisters, Blacks have been working, fighting, suffering and building this country along side you since this country was founded. Regardless of slavery, jim crow, segregation and other forms of government sponsored disenfranchisement they have continued to fight and struggle for a place at the table to make a difference and receive the benefits of being an American. They have struggled to take part in the American Dream even when this counrty did not want them participating. The fact that they have not went to some form of radical homegrown terrorist movement is a testament to that groups Patriotism and committment to seeing a better America.
To my Black American brothers and sisters, Whites have suffered and experienced disenfranchement at the hands of bad government policy , deteriorating education system and lack of quality job opportunities along side you as well. Regardless of priveleges they may have directly or indirectly received they have still had to expend blue, sweat and tears to pursue the America Dream.
"We The People" need to stop allowing ourselves to be subdivided into these ethnic and class based tribes that make us lose focus of what makes us common. Until we can stop seeing what makes us different and starting embracing what makes us common "One Nation, under God, indivisible with Liberty and Justice for All" we will fall short of the ideas set forth by our founding fathers.

1. Obama did not refuse to put his hand over his heart. It is a practice not widely observed. Look around you at the next baseball game. Some people aren't aware of it as a part of the protocol. As a matter of fact, many people don't seem to know that it is against flag protocol to wear flag pins. Obama did not serve in the military, but in 1983, when he graduated from college, we were not at war. If you want to criticize him for not enlisting then do you have a comment on any of the republican candidates, other than McCain? What unit did Rudy, Fred or any of the others sign up for? Did any of them get assigned to a champagne unit (ala Bush) or did they have more important priorities (ala Cheney)?

I know... there are more Blacks at just under 15% of the Population, while Veterans are close to 10%.... but Veterans are all old enough to Vote, while the Black Population is made up of Black Adults as well as Black Children.

And while more often than not Blacks marry other Blacks, Veterans on the other hand marry Non-Veterans, by and large. So, the Military Veterans and Spouses of Military Veterans would be a nice Bloc to have on Election Day.
