Race Card

Throughout this democratic primary campaign there is only one candidate who repeatedly plays the race card and it has not been Sen. Hillary Clinton or her surrogates and that includes the former president. Whenever somebody who is not African American mentions a racial issue or fact (except the media of course) they are labeled "racist." On the other hand, any Obama supporter or person of color is free to openly discuss these issues without being labeled. But then, why should this campaign be any different then what it has been like in this country's social discourse for many decades. Politically correct (PC) has always been used as a sword against one race. In contrast, throughout this campaign blatant sexism of the most offensive, purposeful and disrespectful kind has been tolerated and encouraged by the media coverage and the one time Sen. Clinton pointed this out she was labeled a "whiner". But then, why should this campaign be any different then the predominant discourse in all of human history.

From the beginning of the campaign Barack Obama has tried his very best to run a race-neutral campaign. To do otherwise would have doomed his chances. That's exactly why Bill Clinton's comparison of Obama to Jesse Jackson didn't stick.

This has been a historic race between two candidates challenging the white male hegemony in Washington. Only one of them could win and its unfortunate that this has stirred up so much bitterness and resentment.

I hope that this period of blame and venting will be brief. I can't see that it serves any useful function and it is especially cruel and unfair to give false hope to our Republican friends.

mmiller is another of what appears to be an onslaught of new posters (this is his first post on the fray) who are interested in discussing race and Obama from a negative perspective.

Is this some Rush Limbaugh plot?

Cute theory mmiller.

Ms. Clinton has at one time or another played both the race and sexist card in this campaign...and it's gotten her close...but no cigar. (sorry Bill)

By the way PC is dead. PC is just a straw dummy that Ditto heads like you, put up to tell us how "oppressed" you folks are.

pwoxby is wrong. Obama has been playing the Race Card ever since Clinton won NH. The Obama people started talking about the Tom Bradley Factor for the defeat in NH.

Clinton did not start the feud. It was Obama. Please check the records.

Applause!

PC is dead - it's been dead!

She is still playing by the old rules - and she mastered them, but they are the old rules.

Old feminism, old models, old rules. She got outflanked and still can't believe it.

The dirty politics just won't stick. Not because he's black. Not because he is an empty suit.

But because there is a new game in town and he is playing it best.

Ha!

(sorry, I really don't mean to be ungracious)

No, that was the media. Remember them? They haven't exactly been quiet during this campaign. Show me a press release from the Obama campaign talking about the Bradley Effect.

Obama 08!
