Do unbelievers married to believers...get a "free pass'?

A "Get Out of Hell" card, as long as the Hubby or Missus is a believer?

Maybe, if the believer is a Mormon husband.

I don't think so

If I recall correctly, there's something about not allowing yourself to be 'unequally yoked' to an unbeliever or being at risk to some sort of peril to your soul.

Nonsense, but it's what they seem to believe. You've gotta love self-righteous cultism like that...

troll bait anyone?

oh, come on. you already know the answer to this one. what would ever give anyone the idea that you can marry someone for salvation? the idea is so ridiculous that i would think if there were a religion that espoused this, that it would be clear to anyone that that particular sect would be more than full of the usual kind of crap.

there is no such belief in protestant or catholic forms of christianity, to my knowledge.

Actually, I thought the 'believer' who knowingly marries unbeliever gets the axe.

Now what happens when you marry a 'believer' who then turns 'unbeliever'/'sinner'? Well, I guess the believer prays a lot.

Am reminded of 'The Godfather' (book more than movie) where the Corleone women spend so much time on their knees in churches parying for the souls of their mafia-boss husbands!

I'm all good with that part...but then you had to go ruin it

Well....this guy named Paul, wrote this letter, to some Corinithians...

1 Corinthians 7:14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.

No, but children born in Heaven automatically become citizens of Heaven.

thing called "The Pauline Privilege"

Based, in part on

"If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she consent to dwell with him, let him not put her away. And if any woman hath a husband that believeth not, and he consent to dwell with her, let her not put away her husband. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the believing wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the believing husband: otherwise your children should be unclean; but now they are holy. But if the unbeliever depart, let him depart. For a brother or sister is not under servitude in such cases. But God hath called us in peace." I Cor., vii, 12-15

Basically, (a controversial interpretation) that if one of the parties has received the Christian faith and the other remains an infidel and is not willing to live in peace with the Christian , the believer is not bound, but is free. Pope Innocent wrote on this subject. Later writings stated that the 'Pauline Privilege" (admitting it's christian bias) is attached to baptism.

I've been amused by this on many levels. Not the least of which affects my own divorce last year, because, well. my ex, A MINISTERS SON was NEVER baptized. (His parents believed in adult baptism, and did not have him baptized as an infant. and he never chose to be baptized as an adult.....)

Technically, the bozo qualifies as an infidel. In am half tempted to put in the paperwork.

Nah.

I'd forgotten that passage, very good point....sanctification through marriage. It doesn't even insist that the faith of the one spouse would, or should make the other into a believer, does it? Seems contradictory to the 'unequally yoked' passages, though..

2Cr 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

2Cr 6:15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?

2Cr 6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in [them]; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

2Cr 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean [thing]; and I will receive you,

2Cr 6:18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

In the verses you cite, it seems to be saying that one partner sanctifies the other; in this, that one pollutes the other. Seems like another one of those Biblical contradictions we keep hearing about...

A minister's sone, never baptized? You do find the most scandalous characters to associate with, don't you? ;)

BINGO! We have a winner.

In fact, it IS a contradiction to othe statements by Paul...which was the real trap of the question!

But what do you expect...the guy was a late-comer to the party!
