Close your eyes if it helps.

What do you hear right now, where you are?

Me:

Two clocks ticking. The slight hum of the imac monitor. Hammering outside. A high pitched electronic hum of unidentified origin. An occasional truck in the distance.
I hear children playing...

I hear sparrows and starlings close by. I can hear the traffic on Broadway picking up.

I hear my ears ringing. They do that nonstop now. I hear the fan in my laptop, and the tap of the keyboard as I type this out.

A great crested flycatcher.

Music from the Rough and Ready Days festival coming from the park. The hum from that loud-ass refrigerator (it'll need replacing soon).
you might need an exorcist.

Rain. Drumming against the windows, pouring down the gutters and downspouts. And silence. Blessed silence.

After non-stop days and days of preparations and running around, my kids just left for the Junior Prom a few hours ago, and I'm sitting here with mixed feelings about the passage of time.

Do you mean the refrigerator or the flycatcher?
by Archaeopteryx
Doesn't matter--neither one clunks or shudders.

tomorrow.

Car and boyfriend will be with them.

I read your reply and hear a lot of high-pitched pleading and laughter in my mind's ear.
Tinnitus, mostly.

But if I concentrate very, very hard, I can hear the sound of one mind flapping.

The tick-tock of the grandfather clock.

Chirps and trills of blue jays, blackbirds and a wren maybe?

The rustle of leaves in the trees outside.

Occasional keys tapping.

My cat purring.

Milwaukee Ave at 6:52 on a lovely Friday evening.

Tires on pavement, and the occasional horn.

No tunes. No TV. Clearing the week's work off my desk.

Next, the sound of me locking the door and going home.

After that, a cork popping on a bottle of Brunello.

Ciao.

You let your cats go with your boyfriend, Unsupervised? What if he turns out to be a cat molester?

Then maybe you should be worried about your boyfriend.
