"Hillary Deathwatch"
by Olive & Ouzo & Figgy

"There's one mitigating factor for Clinton: Obama only won four superdelegates yesterday, while Clinton netted zero."

So...because of this mitigation, her candidacy is merely dead instead of dead-and-a-half?

And please forgive me for responding to an ongoing article with such a vile title. Hillary Deathwatch? And Slate encourages civility in The Fray?

The "deathwatch" is the ship, not Hillary. If you right click the graphic and choose "play", you can see the ship sink, but Hillary pops to the surface in an inner tube. She doesn't go down with the ship.

Ooohhh, that makes me feel sooo much better!!

If you want to get technical, it's the Hillary Clinton Presidential Campaign Deathwatch. But that's a mouthful so it gets shortened to Hillary Deathwatch.

I would expect "Clinton Deathwatch" or "Clinton Campaign Deathwatch", but everyone just calls her Hillary anyway, so Hillary it is.

I don't want to get technical -- I'm responding to the title that Slate presents. If the excuse is that it's shortened, it could have been shortened further to Hillary Watch, but that wouldn't have projected the tone Slate was after.

i never understood the taboo-ness surrounding "death." It's one of the irrefutable facts about life. It happens, not just to everyone, but to everything that lives. I guess I take a more open approach to stuff like that instead of worrying about it....

Now, "Killing" is a word that deserves it's negative connotation.... So, if Slate were so hellbent on projecting a negative Hillary tone, might I suggest "The Countdown to ArmaClinton: Hillary's Killing Spree." Last week, it was her credibility. This week it's the democratic party. Next week, it will be her husband's legacy....

It seems Democracy has totally changed, all is decided by the Party and the Media. Obama has used this tactic for Hillary to drop out very early on in the race? What gives him the right to make such a statement! Well, actually what makes him think he can be President, NO EXPERIENCE, A NEW JR SENATOR, CANNOT HOLD HIS OWN IN A DEBATE! yikes it scares the bejesus out of me to think so many folks think this man is capable of being Comander in Chief, looks like McCain is in four more years of Republican rule. YIKES AGAIN.

Gad! My objection is not to the word or fact of death, per se, it's to the specific use here. If HRC were actually dying, your lecture about the irrefutable facts of life would apply; but she's not, and Slate's gleeful title tries to wring humor from the idea that we might prefer that she is. Or so it seems to me.

Or maybe my objection is really that it's not funnier. I would go for "Hillary's Killing Spree", and to your list I would add "her chances in 2012."

Irish Edwards: Actually, this one was decided by the voters, who didn't buy the line, repeated endlessly by commentators of all stripes and by the Democratic Party establishment since 2004, that HRC was the presumptive nominee. But I understand -- people who agree with you about any matter are independent thinkers, those who do not are sheep; funny how that works.

It might interest you to know that "Death Watches" have been a recurrent theme on Slate.

This idea wasn't invented from whole cloth just for Hillary's sake. It is, however, the first Death Watch to receive so much criticism for it's very concept.

Hillary Clinton's campaign died on Tuesday. Slate's feature now would be better called "The Hillary Funeralwatch".

Obama 08!

Thanks for ruining it for me. Ever heard of a "spoiler alert"?

It's not much of an Easter Egg, that you can right click on a flash animation. And it's not working anyway. Run it and see what Hillary looks like at the 2.5 percent they've got her at. I think they're not showing that because people would think it was in poor taste to have Hillary drown until she concedes the election.
