I think a news of the day is a good idea, but a "news of the week" is better.

For example, I like your writing, and have read many articles you've written. I know you are busy, but I wish you would find the time to review my parody blog. It was recently featured in the St Petersburg Times GRADEBOOK education blog, but I have since added even more. I am a FL certified teacher, and this school district has just hired a superintendent with fake credentials. It is a very bizarre situation to those with more than half a brain, which unfortunately excludes many.
