Single payer healthcare?
by wmou

We are eventually going to do there. When we do there will be long waits, lower quality, high costs and less innovation.

Our current system is broken beyond repair and we need free market reforms. But thanks to our inadequate public education system, most americans do not understand that free markets work or why.

Obama and the democrats are going to get the federal govt more involved which will make things worse instead of better. Then congress will fix it by adding more govt interference which will also fail and eventually we will get single payer.

Let's just bypass Obama's stupid fixes and go to single payer now. I'm ready to retire and let the govt force others to pay for my care. We will never try free markets which is what is needed.

"Single payer" doesn't necessarily run afoul of free markets

by any stretch, at least if we're talking about HEALTHCARE markets. The only market "single payer" would necessarily conflict with, is "payer" markets. And....I think you would have a tough time making the case that competition among private "payers" offers an efficiency advantage over a single payer.

The ONLY solution....

To controlling out of control heath costs is Single-payer because then and only then will the 30% profit be taken out of healthcare.

It works in the rest of the industrialized world!

What "the people" and wmou need to be made to understand, is that although there are some schemes that lump the provision of the healthcare product and the paying for the healthcare product together, as with a "national healthcare system", that's not the ONLY way of going about it. The provision of healthcare and the paying for healthcare, CAN be considered seperately. Our current scheme for paying, is incredibly inefficient. AND...we consumers realize virtually no discernable healthcare benefit, for that inefficiency. After all...do you really think our gall bladder gives a shit who writes the check? And frankly...if the system for paying were well designed, even leaving issues of cost aside, I'm guessing we healthcare consumers would find a single-payer system to be a vast and tangible improvement.

All other types of insurance is sold on the open market. We have thousands of choices at reasonable prices.

health insurance is manipulated by big business and the government. So it is no surprise that it is screwed up.

typical reactionary blather

A bunch of imbecilic claims back up by exactly nothing. Dig as long as you like, but you'll never find the bottom of reactionary ignorance.

Trying to educate Republicans is a fool's errand, but for the rest of you here is why this poster is dead wrong as usual, but this time with some facts.

wmou I'm sick of your rationalizing BS. Don't give up. Refuse your Medicare. I dare you. I double dare you...

Or better yet why not go ove to where a man can be free. I suggest Somalia or Sudan. They don't have no stinking government health insurance there.

PS - Don't forget to refuse you Social Security too. After all, it is unconstitutional. Ha, ha ha...

If private health insurance is so expensive because it is manipulated by the government and big business, then explain why the poor suffering insurance industry is willing to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to keep it that way.
