Almost integrity?
by Arlington

We all knew McCain deviated from his previous immigration position just to secure the nomination. If he did shift back to his old position earl, as Kaus suggests, to force the debate back into the Republican agenda, wouldn't that be a flash of the old McCain? A little of the rebel coming out? A trace of the guy who used to be unafraid to tell his own party when they were wrong?

Okay, it's not really integrity to adopt a pretend position and then revert once he has the nomination, but it's about as close to integrity as we're going to get from the GOP.

Of course, this would be getting back on track with the Bush position toward immigration, earned amnesty, etc. We already know McCain plans to give us a third term of "stay the course" in Iraq, so maybe this is a signal we're going to get more Bush immigration policy as well.

Okay, forget what I said about integrity. It's just more ass kissing.
