This isn't a rhetorical post. I simply don't see how requiring a photo id is an undue burden on voters. Okay, I'm not poor, and I've never been poor, not really poor. Both my parents were lower-middle workers, children of immigrants and both through hard work and education become white collar workers. Through the benefit of my grandparents and parent's work and a decent college education (That I'm still paying the loans for) I've created my own middle class lifestyle.
All that goes to say that the world of photo ids are so second-nature, it seems odd that anyone doesn't have one. After all, you can't get on a plane, rent a car, stay in a hotel, use a credit card, do business at a bank, get a job, or do most anything in my world without a photo id. I take my license out of my wallet on a regular basis, and it is becoming more common, not less.
Clearly not everyone exists in this world. There are people who have little or no money, conduct no business, don't drive cars, don't travel and pay in cash for everything. Still, photo id requirements have got to be pressing them too. There are simply too many things for which an id is required, for people not to get one.
So, shouldn't we be assisting and encouraging people to get photo ids? Having identification would help them in many more ways than simply excersising their voting rights. In the end, proving who you are at the poll is not a high hurdle to clear.
